[News] Captain Kickarse & The Awesomes publish the official live video for “Immaculate Consumption”

As part of the Bird’s Robe Records 10th anniversary release series, Sydney Psychedelic Math Rock band Captain Kickarse And The Awesomes will re-release their debut album “Grim Repercussions” internationally in June 2021. Watch the live video for the track “Immaculate Consumption” below:

Bird’s Robe Director Mike Solo explains: “Captain Kickarse and the Awesomes were an essential part of founding The Bird’s Robe Collective and developing the growth of Sydney’s incredible underground experimental music scene. Their live shows were legendary and their music illustrates the depth of undiscovered talent we were fortunate to experience first hand in the early days of Bird’s Robe. I hope that this release brings their music to many more fans, as they truly deserve it.”

Without a permanent bass player, they wrote the bass parts together before engaging Bird’s Robe label-mate Alex Wilson, from Sydney Post Rock heavyweights sleepmakeswaves, to lay down the tracks in the studio.

Alex explains, “Having Wilson on board for the recording was just fantastic. We love sleepmakeswaves and we’re thrilled with what he has done for our album.”

The debut album follows their critically appraised 2009 EP Falsimiles From The Facts Machine

After a sell-out launch at Sydney’s Excelsior Hotel, it was widely picked up by community radio including FBi and 2SER, and performed onstage during national headline club tours and at festivals.

Its success saw Captain Kickarse become finalists in the 2010 Musicoz awards, feature in the top ten of Triple J Unearthed and being handpicked to support Japanese cult legend Tatsuya Yoshida on his Ruins-Alone Australian tour.

Their renown amongst their peers also led to drummer Alex O’Toole eventually being drafted in to drum and tour with fellow Bird’s Robe heavyweights Meniscus from 2014 onwards.
