Sic Itur Ad Astra” is the debut album of the band, which was born from the collaboration between Lyraka’s composer/lead guitarist Andy DiGelsomina and vocalist Robert Lowe (who has played in the ranks of Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus). The composer and guitarist told how the collaboration with Lowe came about: “I’ve been a big fan of Solitude Aeturnus’ work since the early 1990s, but of course I wanted to investigate the work he’s done in this century, to make sure I really wanted to contact him regarding my music. When I heard the band’s latest album, entitled ‘Alone,’ I was completely sold. I love Robert’s voice from the early days, but I prefer the harsh style he has adopted in their latest work. After that I learned about his albums with Candlemass, which soon became my favorite, carving in stone the conviction that Robert is an elite metal singer as well as an icon.

Sic Itur Ad Astra” is a journey consisting of 7 tracks with a total duration of about 44 minutes. The sound is mainly influenced by Black Sabbath (particularly the years with Osbourne and Ronnie Dio), Dio‘s time with Ritchie Blackmore, Deep Purple, the debut album of Saint Vitus, Robert‘s work with Solitude Aeturnus and, to a lesser extent, Candlemass. However, the imprint of some of the songs is reminiscent of Control Denied‘s “The Fragile Art of Existence,” both in terms of riffs and production in full 1990s style. DiGelsomina intends to offer an evocative and well-composed album, deliberately remaining far from the formal perfection imposed by the current canons of record productions.

Lyrically, “Sic Itur Ad Astra” is an allegory of the Warrior Angel‘s (from the land of Mahanaim) struggle with the avatar of the Lovecraftian character Nyarlathotep. The beginning of the story goes back a million years, when the Warrior Angel and the Heavenly Host stop a powerful dragon (a common avatar of Nyarlathotep), reducing it to a slithering serpent on Earth, where it would end up ruling sooner or later. After discovering the mystical trapezohedron and becoming aware of Earth’s subjugation by his nemesis, the Warrior Angel embarks on an epic journey, believing he is being led by God to the location of his enemy. Nyarlathotep eventually enchants her, leaving him trapped in the deltahedron, temporarily unable to fight. This sets the stage for the next album and the appearance of his holistic companion, the Conqueror.

The album will be available in CD, streaming and digital download formats.

The music was composed and arranged by Andy DiGelsomina. The album was produced, developed by Andre Maquera (West Street Digital), who was also responsible for playing rhythm guitars as well as inspiring Andy in his work. Andy DiGelsomina‘s photos are by Cheryl DiGelsomina and Justin Walker, and Robert Lowe‘s is by Galen Johnson. The artwork is by Michael Calandra.
