Alene” is a celebration of loneliness. The powerful vocals grab the listener and transport them to a bad party with bad friends. The accordion and fiddle evokes a drinking song that sways unsettlingly until it breaks into full dance.

MÍO are an Oslo-based Experimental Norwegian Folk Rock band that has been recognized within the underground scene for their energetic concerts and unique sound.

The band granted us a mini-interview, which we offer below:

Hi, how are you?

Hey, we are good – very excited for our new single coming out this friday!

“Alene” is a track that incorporates different sounds, how would you describe the track?

The song’s arrangement sways between broken dreams and intoxication until it breaks out into full dance. We started working on “Alene” in late 2020, and in early 2021 when our latest member, Henrik, joined, we incorporated the accordion, which really made sense for the song. The song became what we call a broken drinking song, and the musical arrangement really emphasizes this. The accordion as mentioned, and then the fiddle underlines the unsettling feelings evoked in the lyrics. The drumbeat was actually stolen from our drummer’s favorite band.

The vocals are powerful and intense, what theme do the lyrics deal with?

Alene [alone] is inspired by a drunken night out. – Where both those serving and getting served are struggling musicians from various local Oslo bands. All of them are chasing a career breakthrough, now standing here in the same situation: the passage between everyday life and the dream. We like to think that the song is a celebration of loneliness.

Folk Rock with an experimental touch, with an original style, how does the creative process of your music take place?

Bass player Marianne and vocalist Dionisia usually make most of the outlines/drafts for songs. Together the band arranges the songs and puts their own individual touch on the sound. We all have various inspirations and backgrounds in music, so it’s really a mix of musical expressions. We keep a solid folk-alibi with the fiddles being a big part of our sound as well as Henrik’s huge arsenal of folk instruments from all over the world. Rock’n’roll mixed with folk = folk’n’roll.

The single is due out November 25, 2022, do you have plans for a full-length in the near future?

Absolutely. We just finished our album and it is coming out next year. We are super excited about the release next summer.

Many of our readers and your fans wonder if there will be a chance to hear your music live, do you have plans in this regard?

Yes, we play regularly here in Norway, and this friday we’re playing and celebrating our release in a student venue in Oslo. But, for our album tour we are planning a US west coast tour. We are also in contact with European bookers as well.
