The Progressive Metal quintet IONS is gearing up for the release of their forthcoming album “Counterintuitive” this fall. A few months ago, they introduced their first single, titled “A Terrible Mistake,” which serves as the album’s opening track. The album concludes with their second single, “Run.”
While “A Terrible Mistake” explores the theme of turning a blind eye to issues that may not directly affect us, “Run” delves into a more specific and poignant subject of domestic violence. This song is about those who have firsthand experience with this critical issue.
“Unfortunately, the topic of domestic violence remains poorly communicated, as a result of which it’s being tolerated by society even when committed by public figures in the highest state functions. We believe that discussing this subject is crucial because it is the primary means by which we can inspire courage in victims and provide them with the necessary support.” says singer and author of the lyrics Tomas Shorty Lago.
Compared to the previous songs, “Run” is more Ambient. Guitarist Jakub Tirco is behind the arrangements, production, and mix once again. As he puts it: “The release of ‘Run’ marks a significant moment for the band. The track shows how much we have progressed as a band since the last album’s release. We went through some personal changes along the way, and I can’t imagine a better group of people for the creation of this next album.” In addition to the band members, two musical guests, Ivana Pincakova (Rapsodéve) and Nina Tarasovicova (ex-NOV) took part in the recording of Run.
The music video for “Run” was filmed by the videographer Peter Roncik, who had previously worked with the band on the video for the song “A Terrible Mistake”. Just like the song itself, the music video seeks to raise awareness about domestic violence that happens behind closed doors. “At the end of the video, you’ll find a link to the website www.findahelpline.com, where anyone can access local contacts and seek help. There is no shame in asking for help,” emphasizes Tomas Shorty Lago.
