It is with great pleasure that we present this new work for M.P. & Records, for the first time in exclusively online format, released on March 25th on the occasion of Dantedi’ (that’s to say the Day Of Dante Alighieri, the writer of the Divine Comedy), traditionally the day Dante gets lost in the “dark forest” in year 1300.
A new album by Nicola Alesini, perhaps one of the most important Italian saxophonists (who worked with such artists as Hans Joachim Roedelius, David Sylvian, Roger Eno, David Thorn, Harold Budd,) entitled “Dante – Imaginary travels between Hell and Paradise,” recorded live in Rome in 2009 with the collaboration of drummer Fabrizio Cicero.
First exclusively digital release for M.P. & Records who wants to start this new path with the
work of a great Italian musician of international fame:
Nicola Alesini with the presence of Fabrizio Cicero on drums.
The album is available on the main digital download platforms.
This album, which needs no particular introduction as its source of inspiration is immediately clear, is an evocation, in a Jazz Rock improvisational key, of the best-known Dantesque “paintings” and through the use of the most popular “verses” become proverbial in common parlance.
Excerpt from the live recording of 5 weekly concerts, titled “Viaggi Immaginari fra Inferno e Paradiso” (Imaginary Journeys between Hell and Paradise), held in July 2009 in Piazza dei Ravennati in Rome.
The sound density, despite the presence of only two musicians on stage, was possible thanks to the pre-recorded voice, the use of Loop machines with sampled electronic loops.
Music by Nicola Alesini.
The cover painting is by Pieter Huys “L’Inferno” (1570)
Graphic and video elaborations by OndemediE
The album is dedicated to the memory of Elia Catalano.
Composer and saxophonist, Nicola Alesini is one of the most attentive researchers of new sounds in the field of rhythms and melodies of the Mediterranean tradition. In his music, always open to the whole universe of the language of art (word, gesture and image), Jazz and Popular Music, Ambient and World Music meet and merge.
Vision, magic, suggestion are the stylistic figures of his compositions and his phrasing which is sometimes lyrical, sometimes scathing. He has worked with musicians of the caliber of Glen Velez, Hans Joachim Roedelius, David Sylvian, Roger Eno, David Thorn, Harold Budd, Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri, Saro Cosentino.
