The band states: “Vostok Mega Drive is the single that anticipates our new EP.
Space, understood as the cosmos, is the thread running through our forthcoming EP, both in terms of imagery and sound – an unrealistic, sci-fi, retro-futuristic idea of space that looks more to the East than to the West. It is no coincidence that ‘Vostok’ is the name of the Soviet space programme in the 1960s and ‘Vostok-1’ the name of the vehicle that carried Yuri Gagarin to orbit the Earth. Vostok Mega Drive could be (and who knows, maybe it is, was or will be) the name of a secret technology to propel cosmonauts beyond the speed of light. It is a piece designed to be listened to at full volume, while hurtling along in your spaceship at full speed!“
“Vostok Mega Drive” is the new single from 3onvega, the track that anticipates the upcoming new EP, once again with Luminol Records like the debut “Kolorblocks,” which the Milanese label released in 2022. The power trio, born from the combination of previous groups Sieve, Kandma, Eon, Stephane TV and Cinestesia, use the space metaphor to trigger a visionary component in their sound, once again straddling post-rock, contemporary progressive and Math-Rock. “Vostok Mega Drive” is a sort of evolution of “Fembots,” which was the first single but also the most direct track on the debut album: same structure, similar attitude, with more emphasis on the prog component and greater speed. All with a more natural and in some ways vintage sound, which matches the trio’s aesthetic and conceptual idea of space.
The cover was created using artificial intelligence, guided and supplemented by the indispensable human hand – a way of working that also reflects the shared imagery of 3onvega. In addition, there is a small reference to a well-known Heavy Metal band, of which two-thirds of 3onvega are big fans.
