A new soundtrack, this time published for the first time ever in physical format, for AMS Records: it is “Greggio e Pericoloso,” the music by Banco del Mutuo Soccorso for the RAI mini-series of the same name aired in the autumn of 1981. “Greggio e Pericoloso” is a 1975 novel written by Roberto Vacca, a popular engineer and populariser of science, which tells an intricate story of fantasy-economic and political intrigue arising from the possibility that a resource such as oil might prove inexhaustible. In 1981, that same book became material for the screenplay of a mini-series of four episodes, produced and broadcast by the second RAI channel on 2 October 1981, directed by Enzo Tarquini and starring Vittorio Caprioli, Alessandro Haber, Mara Venier and many others.
To compose and record the tracks of the soundtrack is Banco, who at this juncture rediscovers and recovers certain Progressive nuances of their sound that in the 1980 album “Urgentissimo” and “Buone Notizie” (which will be released a few weeks after the mini-series), had been almost completely set aside. Two aspects are particularly exalted in these twelve instrumental tracks: one more energetic, given by Electric Jazz-Funk, the other more reflective and at the same time charged with tension, expressed by sonorities that can be compared to the German electronics of the 1970s Cosmic couriers.
Despite the undoubted quality of the material, this soundtrack – along with others made by the band that never saw the light of day – has remained completely unreleased to this day, and for the very first time in over forty years it is finally being released in physical format and made known to the many Italian Prog fans who were probably unaware of its existence.
