Progressive Rock Journal (PRJ) was founded in 2019 by Jacopo Vigezzi, a long-time enthusiast, collector, and connoisseur of Progressive Rock, Psychedelic Rock, and Heavy Metal—an enduring passion nurtured since childhood and deeply influenced by his father. What initially began as a personal project soon evolved into a fully-fledged webzine, steadily gaining recognition within the international Rock community.
From the outset, the choice to publish exclusively in English proved instrumental in expanding the magazine’s global reach. Over the years, Progressive Rock Journal (PRJ) has built an extensive network of contacts across the worldwide Rock and Metal scene, publishing interviews with leading and influential artists from a wide spectrum of genres. In parallel, the webzine has established long-term collaborations with major record labels and specialized press agencies, reinforcing its position as a trusted and respected media outlet.
Our website features daily updated news, exclusive premieres, in-depth reviews, tour dates, and festival coverage, alongside exclusive interviews and carefully curated editorials. Particular attention is given to Hidden Rarities from the 1960s and 1970s, as well as to more recent artists and releases that have remained overlooked within the underground scene, yet deserve critical recognition.
A significant focus is dedicated to new releases through a specialized section that provides a comprehensive monthly overview of newly issued albums. Each entry includes release dates, genres, titles, and direct links to our reviews whenever available, offering readers a clear and structured reference point for exploring contemporary Progressive and Heavy music.
Progressive Rock Journal (PRJ) also operates an active YouTube channel, where we publish weekly curated compilations, exclusive premieres in collaboration with artists and labels, and archival research featuring demo tapes and extremely rare material brought back into the spotlight. The channel further hosts official video premieres, singles, and full album streams, developed in close cooperation with artists and record labels, ensuring both editorial integrity and maximum visibility for the music we support.
In addition, every week we curate Spotify playlists featuring both reviewed and hidden gems, providing listeners with a guided journey through the world of Progressive and Heavy Music.
We cover a wide spectrum of genres, including: Art Rock, Avant-Garde/Experimental, Canterbury Scene, Classic Rock, Doom, Folk Prog, Heavy Prog, Jazz Prog, Krautrock, Neo Prog, Post-Rock, Progressive Metal, Progressive Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Rock Progressivo Italiano, Space Rock, and Symphonic Prog.
Progressive Rock Journal (PRJ) stands as an independent, passionate, and authoritative voice within the progressive and experimental music landscape—committed to quality journalism, historical depth, and the continuous discovery of music that challenges boundaries and conventions. As the webzine continues to grow and expand, we are developing new formats, exploring broader multimedia initiatives, and deepening our engagement with the global progressive music community to bring both classic and underground music to new audiences worldwide.
