The Italian one-man project haze returns indigo, led by Alessandro Madonia, falls firmly into the second category — and his debut album “sunflower, colours.” released today, February 27, 2026, is the clearest possible proof of that.
Fourteen tracks that blur the lines between Psychedelic Rock, Shoegaze, Dream Pop, and Experimental Electronics, “sunflower, colours.” is a deeply personal record built around a single, disarming thesis: “Hope is useless if it remains as it is.” It’s not a nihilistic statement — it’s a call to action wrapped in haze and reverb, a meditation on inertia and the quiet courage it takes to leave a trace in the world.

Madonia handles songwriting, composition, production, and vocals entirely on his own, with contributions from drummer Giulio Bruno on five tracks and a guest melodic guitar appearance by venusian_friend on the piece “you are not alone.” The result is a lo-fi, emotionally raw landscape where fragile vocal melodies float over layered textures, and where the intimacy of bedroom recording becomes a feature, not a flaw.
The album flows between micro-interludes and fully developed songs — from the opener “the possibilities you have” to the sprawling closer “the blue sky” — with standout moments in the guitar-driven “cherry picking,” the hypnotic “wonder”, and the confessional “sad stupid song,” a title that dares you to dismiss it before it quietly pulls you in.
