The band — Jon Crosby, Tom Deal, Jason Maraj, Nick Cosimini, and John St.Onge — describe their sound as “dark storytelling in grunge/prog/alt flavor, crafted from real life-lived,” and that description lands. This is music that sits somewhere between the emotional weight of ’90s Alternative Rock, the structural ambition of Progressive Rock, and the raw grain of Grunge — not retro, not derivative, but genuinely lived-in.
Watching the band deliver those songs in a small venue context makes one thing immediately clear — eXsecretaries is a live band first, and the record captures that energy rather than smothering it. The self-titled debut runs seven tracks — “Trails,” “Perfect Silence,” “The Body,” “Unloved,” “Desperation,” “Head Down,” “On The Floor” — each sitting in the four-to-five-minute range, giving the record a tight, purposeful feel. No filler, no extended noodling. Just songs that clearly know what they are.
This is the kind of debut that deserves more ears. Keep an eye on eXsecretaries.
