Toronto-based instrumental outfit Daydream Plus has released a stunning new live session video capturing the band performing three standout tracks: “Speed Limit,” “More Time Alone,” and “Hard To Destroy,” taken from their critically acclaimed debut full-length album, “Second Last Day of Summer.”

Recorded live at the Annette Community Recreation Centre in Toronto, Ontario, the session offers a vivid, unfiltered look at the band’s unique musical synergy. The video, directed by Andrew Blair with title cards designed by Matt Christopher, features live audio recorded by the band’s own Max Klebanoff and mixed and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air.
For this performance, the core trio of Daydream Plus is joined by an expanded roster of musicians. The live lineup features:
Payson Power / Guitar
Michael Ruggiero / Guitar
Kevin Sia / Bass
Max Klebanoff / Drums
Joseph Shabason / Saxophone (on “More Time Alone“)
The session also credits a “starting lineup” of collaborators including Jon Barbin, Karl Go, Kevin Leung, Robert Nafrada, Joshua Taguicana, and Jeremy Tsee.
Joseph Shabason, who originally contributed his lush saxophone work to the album version of “More Time Alone,” reprises his role in this live setting, seamlessly weaving his brass lines through the band’s intricate, Melodic Math Rock textures.
Daydream Plus emerged in 2020, formed by guitarist Payson Power as a melodic, vocal-free vehicle to explore catchy, instrumental arrangements. Drawing together Power’s fellow Tomb Mold bandmates Max Klebanoff and Kevin Sia, the project carved out a unique sonic space situated at the intersection of intricate Math Rock, urbane city Pop, and retro video game soundtracks.
While the trio’s technical background is undeniable, “Second Last Day of Summer” deliberately prioritizes ebullient melody and open space over aggressive virtuosity. “A lot of those songs are only 30 seconds long, yet you never get sick of them,” Power noted of his influences, which include classic scores like “Mega Man 2.” “Those familiar compositions are a reminder for me that melody is paramount over technicality.“
This live session highlights that very philosophy, translating the studio’s meticulous craftsmanship—originally tracked at Union Sound Company—into a warm, kinetic live environment.
Released on July 10, 2026, via Run For Cover Records, “Second Last Day of Summer” is available on LP, CD, and digital formats.
In a nod to their deeply rooted retro gaming influences, the band has also made Extended Forecast—a fully playable chiptune/8-bit version of the entire album—available on an NES-compatible cartridge.
