Following the recent premiere on Progressive Rock Journal for his third single “Velomorph,” guitarist and composer Rodrigo Pagavino has released the official music video for his new single, “Alma Llanera.” The track reinvents one of Venezuela’s most iconic traditional compositions, originally written by Pedro Elías Gutiérrez, through Pagavino’s modern instrumental perspective and signature 14-string double-neck FM Guitar.

Pagavino’s arrangement combines the classic Venezuelan Folk melody with Progressive, Experimental, and modern instrumental elements. The piece serves as a personal dedication to Venezuela—its culture, landscapes, and people—with special recognition of those impacted by the country’s recent earthquake. The arrangement was also inspired by Felix Martin’s extended-range guitar interpretation of the piece.
Speaking on the creative direction and purpose of the track, Rodrigo Pagavino shared:
I wanted to reinterpret Alma Llanera, one of the most iconic pieces of Venezuelan music, through my own musical language and the sound of my 14-string FM Guitars instrument. This version is dedicated to Venezuela, its culture, its landscapes and its people, and especially to all those affected by the recent earthquake in the country. I decided to create my own arrangement, combining the traditional Venezuelan melody with elements of progressive, experimental and modern instrumental music.
Recorded using Pagavino’s 14-string double-neck guitar, “Alma Llanera” features a full band performance including Ernest Pagavino on drums, Massimiliano “Marfi” Gentilini on bass, and Rodolfo Pachano on cuatro. The track will be included as a bonus track on Pagavino‘s debut full-length album, set for release this October.
Production duties were handled by Pagavino (arrangement and production), with mixing by Xavi Escribano and mastering by Jan Vacik. The official visual production was filmed by ROAR Audiovisual.
