Swedish Electro-Prog band Bakelit will release their third album, “Wake Up Terrified,” on 27 November 2026, continuing a remarkably prolific run of three albums in just three years.
The album will be preceded by two singles: “In a Crash,” released on 23 October, followed by “The Alien” on November 6th.
Founded in 2023 by Carl Westholm, Bakelit grew out of a desire to bring a large collection of previously written songs to life through experimentation with electronic hardware. Known for his work with Carptree, Jupiter Society and Abstrakt Algebra, as well as his involvement in the original line-ups of Doom Metal bands Avatarium and Krux and regular contributions to Candlemass, Westholm brought together collaborators from his previous projects to explore a deliberately unpredictable meeting point between electronics and rock.
Bakelit‘s debut album, “Asleep or Insane,” arrived in November 2024. The band followed it less than a year later with “No Fear of Drowning” in September 2025. Both albums received strong praise for their ability to combine Electronic Experimentation with Progressive Rock.
Now, Bakelit are taking that concept further with “Wake Up Terrified.” Recorded throughout the winter and spring of 2026, the album features the same line-up as “No Fear of Drowning,” with drummer Jonas Källsbäck, known for his work with The Night Flight Orchestra and Gathering Of Kings, joining the band.
The new album is perhaps not as dark as its predecessor, but still deeply penetrates the different aspects of the human mind, emotions and behaviour – for good and for bad… It still has one foot in progressive art rock and the other in electronic music. The ambition is clear: to build up a tension between different moods and ambient landscapes, from the first to the last track. – Carl Westholm
