Bending Progressive Metal, Cinematic orchestration, and synthetic elements, storytelling lies at the heart of the Progressive duo, Cepheidae Variable. The forthcoming full length “Primordial Reverie Ascendant” is a Sci-Fi concept album that sees a space adventurer pursue her dreams to travel among the stars. “Primordial Reverie Ascendant” is scheduled to arrive independently on January 08, 2027. The new single release, “Carving a Dragon,” provides an insight into the album’s central concept.

Lyrically, “Carving a Dragon” introduces the narrative that runs through “Primordial Reverie Ascendant.” “The protagonist is gripped by recurring dreams; an unshakable pull toward the stars.” Cepheidae Variable explains. “As the track progresses, that tension shifts into determination. Longing gives way to resolve. ‘Carving a Dragon’ becomes a metaphor for self-growth.
Beyond the album’s narrative, the lyrics also reflect the underlying motivation behind the project itself. A longstanding drive to create and release music, culminating in the formation of CEPHEIDAE VARIABLE.”
Musically, “Carving a Dragon” evokes the feeling of embarking on a new journey. Opening with a driving riff, this memorable motif provides momentum and movement. Orchestral strings inject a cinematic touch to the atmosphere while synthesizer textures enhance the sound and the track’s theme.

— About Cepheidae Variable —
Cepheidae Variable began in 2024 by British Columbia-based multi-instrumentalist Ryan Koepke as an instrumental project. Musically, Koepke seeks to produce grand soundscapes through carefully constructed layers of instrumental textures and tones. A key component of Cepheidae Variable is chaos and unpredictability. Emotive storytelling is interwoven through each track’s arrangement.
Following the release of the instrumental album, “Primordial Reverie,” in 2025, Chad Bernatchez (Voidchaser) joined Cepheidae Variable which led to a progression in creative direction to now incorporate clean and harsh vocals. With input from Bernatchez, the new release delves further into Cepheidae Variable‘s fictional realms bringing a new way of understanding the concepts first glimpsed in “Primordial Reverie.”
