Dear readers, in this article we have the pleasure to offer you an interview with a British artist, frontman of the band Reversed Chakra. We welcome Justin Brett.
Hi Justin how are you?
“Im very well thank you and thankyou so much for the interview“
What is the meaning behind your band name “Reversed Chakra”?
“The term “reversed” is associated with an alternative flow of energy. For instance, in the idea of a “Reversed Kundalini,” energy might flow in the opposite direction of the traditional upward movement through the chakras. This concept is symbolically connected to an “Inverted Tree,” rooted earthward
‘Chakra’ represents the gateway, the threshold through which this energy traverses in its reversed course, enhancing the spiritual experience and challenging the boundaries of perception. ‘Reversed Chakra’ embodies a journey of exploration and transformation, where the flow of energy defies expectations and opens doors to new dimensions of consciousness.“
Your band is made up of 4 experienced musicians from all musical backgrounds ,how did your band come about?
“Well carlo and Alice are the founding members of this band ,carlo was searching for a guitarist for a while and he started with people in his network and came across Alice, and the two of them jammed to see how they got on and actually the first song they wrote was “game of chess” our debut single ….and they thought yeah we have something here ,so the search went on ,they wrote the album and tried many singers ,and involved paul reeve to write some of the songs (lyrics) and did the whole album with drum machines and paul sang some songs to demo and another singer they tried had demo some of the tracks too ,then they looked for a drummer and I believe Leo was first just asked if he would play the drums and Leo fell in love with the songs and decided/asked if he could become a permanent member ,and then they just needed a singer (which they had been searching for over a year for) ,and I was in a rock band that was signed to Carlos label and we had become friends over time (in a weird meant to be way) I had no idea about his band ,and he asked me if I would ne interested to do an audition and sent me the tracks and I loved them so I did it ,and the rest is history “Reversed chakra ” was born“
You offer a modern sound that blends many genres and styles how would you describe your sound
“I would say we are indie rock, we have a bit of everything for everyone I belive (in that style) we have some songs with some piano and very emotional lyrics and music and we have some more rocky songs to let your hair down, but I would say indie rock with a bit of a twist?“
Your first album “Healing Heart Rehab” is due out early 2025 ,what is the theme and lyrics of the album
“Many of our songs contain esoteric elements, talking about dreams made or fragments of them. Dreams that intersect with reality until they are no longer recognizable from each other. The atmospheres of our songs are mysterious, sometimes dark, but also dreamy. Other songs, on the other hand, deal with life experiences experienced by some of us or our loved ones that have particularly affected us, the death of a father, the loss of a daughter, abandonment by a loved one. These are themes with which everyone can identify. They are meant to be hymns to start over and keep fighting for your dreams even when you are on the bottom.“
Besides the lyrics the music is also very sophisticated and intense, how does the creative process of your music take place
“On this album (and future) carlo and Alice wrote all the music ,and for me personally it was all done before I was here and they were writing together while searching for the right people but going forward I’m sure we will all be more involved?“
Has the first single and official video “Game Of Chess” been released and do ypu have any other releases planned to anticipate the album
“Yes the single and video of game and chess has been released and is doing amazing, we have had 1 8 million views on YouTube! And is available to stream on all platforms (wink wink)…..and yes we have another single planned for release before the album ,which we are working on now“
Many of your fans and our readers are wondering when they can see you live do you have any plans with that regard
“We most definitely will be playing live ,as you’ve mentioned we’re all experienced musicians and playing live is all of our love so all I can say to that is watch this space and we will come and rock you all soon enough“
Despite your band mates the project involves producer Paul Reeve and John Fryer on the mixing ,what did they bring to the sound?
“Well Paul Reeve was a pleasure to work with ,and especially for me personally, he brought the best out of me and was an honour to be singing some of the songs he wrote (especially the one about his dad) and obviously John Fryer is an amazing engineer and makes the songs come alive I can’t praise then both enough ,and we also have “Richard Dodd” mastering (who did all of Kings of Leon’s albums) plus many many more ,which again adds magic! So 3 amazing people in the production team“
Talking about your vocal style, how did your passion for music come about and what are your biggest sources of inspiration
“Well belive it or not I actually started my first band when I was 7 or 8 at school and pretty much carried on my whole life ,but was in my first real (gigging) band at 16 where we played pubs and stuff ,but I’ve always done rock metal type bands ,bit of nu metal in the 2000s all sorts but I’ve always liked things catchy and proper singing more than metal ,and I did want to mellow more and sing more what I’m doing now so when carlo asked me it was almost like he was reading my mind“
The music scene is constantly evolving, how do you see todays rock scene in your country and worldwide?
“Well it is always evolving ,but yo me it always comes back to good bands that eventually leads the way ,I personally think rock (especially indie rock) is making its way back to the top again ,o can’t speak for worldwide, but I hope that’s the case all round? And we want to be in that tidal wave“
Do you have any other passions or artistic activities outside of music?
“My big passion outside music has always been motorbikes ,and Leo is also a biker too (we have yet to ride together yet) but we will“
