Emerging from the ever-evolving underground scene of Barcelona, Dopemancer have steadily carved out their sonic identity with a fusion of Psychedelic textures, Stoner grooves, and Doom-laden riffs. Their latest single, “Green Poison,” released on May 05, 2025, marks a powerful return that not only reaffirms their sound but also deepens their artistic vision. Following their 2021 EP “Satanic Psychotropic Influences,” the band now invites listeners into a darker, more atmospheric realm, laden with heavy tones and introspective lyrics.
We had the pleasure of speaking with the band to explore the creative process behind their new release, the evolution of their sound, and what the future holds for this promising Spanish act.
“Green Poison” marks your return after previous releases. Can you delve into the inspiration behind this track and its significance in your discography?
“We wanted to express our hatred towards the evil that often hides behind money, power, and greed—the roots of inequality and violence. War, murder, coercion, oppression, occupation, and misery are all we get from these parasites: billionaires, CEOs, and so-called philanthropists or entrepreneurs who claim to make our lives easier while feeding off our suffering.“
The lyrics of “Green Poison” convey intense emotions. Could you elaborate on the themes and messages you aimed to express through this song?
“It’s a song born from growing rage—a fantasy of reactive violence in response to systemic violence and oppression. The lyrics might seem harsh, but what’s really ironic is how society tends to demonize reactive violence while ignoring or justifying the much more pervasive structural cruelty. The real difference lies in who is trying to survive that violence.“
Your music blends Psychedelic, stoner, and doom metal elements. How do you approach integrating these genres to create your distinctive sound?
“It comes quite naturally. When we create, we draw unconsciously from our tastes and references. We always aim to preserve the dark essence of doom metal while weaving in a rich psychedelic atmosphere and a strong groove that acts like a trance trigger. Our goal is to deliver that deep, heavy sound—a sense-altering strike of sonic dope—layered into a swirling void.“
The recording and mastering of “Green Poison” took place at Analog Drive-In in Barcelona. How did this studio environment influence the track’s production?
“Christian, who was originally our amp tech, is a truly kind, passionate, and laid-back guy. We wanted to try recording our first fully analog album with him. “Green Poison” was actually recorded alongside the rest of the tracks from Satanic Psychotropic Influences, but we decided to keep it in the cauldron for later. Entering his studio felt like stepping into another era—vintage machines everywhere and his deep knowledge really shaped the uniqueness of the final sound.“
Your earlier works, like the “Satanic Psychotropic Influences” EP, showcased a particular sonic direction. How has your sound evolved since then, leading up to “Green Poison”?
“‘Green Poison‘”‘ captures that spicy riff-driven vibe we were aiming for, but with a darker twist. The sound is built on low, heavy layers—charged with irony, mischievousness, and conspiratorial overtones. Lyrically, it’s a jester-like middle finger to all the people we’re targeting.“
Could you share insights into your songwriting and composition process? How do the band members collaborate to bring a track like “Green Poison” to life?
“It usually starts with a shared sense of outrage toward something—political issues, social injustice, whatever fuels our frustration with the world and the system we live in. These conversations often turn into raw emotional fuel that we channel into music. The lyrics typically emerge from general reflections like “millionaires and corporations are screwing people and the planet,” and get distilled into just a few sharp lines.
‘Green Poison’ was actually composed during a very specific moment in the band’s history, when it was just Litus, Molina (our former drummer), and myself. That period was intense and full of creative flow. Litus usually writes most of our lyrics—he’s an incredibly imaginative guy—but songwriting has always been collaborative. Everyone brings something to the table, both musically and lyrically, and that collective spirit is what gives the track its depth and punch.“
Barcelona has a vibrant music scene. How has the local culture and environment influenced your music and artistic vision?
“Barcelona’s underground scene is filled with great bands—from extreme metal to heavy psych. We wanted to bridge those worlds: keeping our metal roots while adding the flair we sometimes felt was missing. That flavor comes from the psychedelic and heavy ‘70s rock bands we love.“
Are there any particular artists or bands that have significantly influenced Dopemancer’s musical journey?
“Absolutely. We’re fanatics of Electric Wizard—eternal devotees of the doom gods. Mephistofeles has also been a huge influence on our sound and atmosphere. Besides that, we’re deeply inspired by ‘70s hard rock, prog, funk, and the psychedelic explosion from that era.“
With the release of “Green Poison,” what are your plans moving forward? Can fans anticipate a full-length album or upcoming performances?
“We’re currently working on our next full-length, which will dive even deeper into themes like black arts, perception, evil, occultism, and drug-induced states. We’re not rushing it, but we’re also not dragging our feet. We just want it to sound exactly how we envision it. Also, we’d love to play outside Spain soon—so keep an eye out!“
For new listeners discovering Dopemancer through “Green Poison,” what would you like them to take away from this track?
“Music can be a form of escape, but also a tool for confrontation. It can help express inner darkness, spark thought, and break through resistances. We hope listeners feel something intense—maybe uncomfortable, maybe cathartic—and above all, we hope they don’t let the industry or its interests corrupt what music really means.“
With “Green Poison,” Dopemancer continue to blur genre boundaries, channeling raw intensity and Psychedelic nuance into a sound that is unmistakably their own. As they look ahead to future releases and live shows, it’s clear that this Spanish outfit is poised to further establish themselves within the Heavy underground landscape. Fans of deep, immersive, and riff-driven music should definitely keep an eye on their next moves.
