The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara (TCOMAS) have released a new single, ‘Shaman’, today. Taken from the duo’s forthcoming sophomore album, Trust No Leaders, ‘Shaman’ follows the release of four previous singles ‘Count the Dead, ‘The Prophet’, ‘Nothing but Dust’, and ‘The Chefs Song. The single will be accompanied by a music video created by the artists themselves. The official date for the video release is May 28, available on TCOMAS’s  YouTube channel, with a special premiere of the video on V13 on May 27.

Hailed as “pioneers of a new form of expression” through the performance of poetry in music, The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara (TCOMAS), are a UK-based duo comprising Daphne Ang (Singapore) and Andrea Papi (Italy) who came together in London in early 2020 to record their debut album Full Spectrum, released in February 2021.

Speaking of the inspiration and meaning behind their new track, “Shaman’, The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara share:

‘Shaman’ tells a tale of a symbolic journey into one’s psyche. The song narrates a personal confrontation with the unconscious through mythopoetic imagination. Resolved to open herself to the strange impulses surging up from the depths of her unconscious mind, she entrusts herself to the guidance of a transcendent spiritual intelligence who leads her on a voyage of discovery  “to the end of the world”, “through the ocean of infinite worlds, the sea of all souls”.

It is a story that represents man’s quest for wholeness and fulfilment. It talks about the possibility of encountering our inner worlds by willingly surrendering to one’s psyche in order to encounter one’s unconscious. This experience is akin to the Native American Sweat Lodge Ceremony, inipi or inikagapi, whereby participants pass through four doors to cleanse and prepare themselves for Vision Quests, Hanbleceya, which are journeys into the spiritual world.

Guided by Jungian psychoanalytic theory, ‘Shaman’ introduces the idea that the first step in the journey towards human fulfilment and individuation is to first acknowledge and engage with the inner worlds within us by bringing the contents of our unconscious mind into our consciousness.”
