Djupet Val Itt

Formed in 2024 in Södra Skåne, southern Sweden, with the vision of exploring the heavier and more Psychedelic sides of Stoner, Doom and Rock sung in their native language, Djupet present their debut EP “Vål: Itt,” available on Bandcamp. The quartet — Öberg (vocals and guitar), Otto (guitar), Micke (bass) and Pontus (drums) — delivers three solid, well-crafted tracks that reveal a direct yet inspired approach, combining Scandinavian rawness with hypnotic and fuzz-laden atmospheres. The opening track, “Bortplockad,” immediately sets a massive wall of sound, driven by crushing riffs, a tight rhythmic section and extended solo passages slicing through the sonic mass. The result recalls Sleep at their most Psychedelic, though filtered through a distinctive Nordic tone. The Swedish vocals, expressive and dynamic, add a unique character and strengthen the band’s identity. “Om Du Bara Ser Mörker” follows, introduced by a deep, slow bass groove soon joined by Heavy guitar riffs and firm drumming. The raw and slightly distorted vocals add a gritty edge to a piece that merges cavernous Doom, Psychedelic Rock and a touch of Scandinavian Heavy Rock. In its second half, the track gains momentum, turning into a rougher Heavy Rock flow enhanced by a sharp and incisive guitar solo that closes the piece with energy and precision. The last track “E Du Min Vän? (Din jävla skurk!)” brings the EP to a darker conclusion. Hypnotic and penetrating riffs build a thick, monolithic atmosphere, evoking the earliest Stoner/Doom roots. The aggressive and commanding vocal performance leads the way through a dense texture, until the finale introduces a tonal shift: the sound opens towards a more Retro Heavy Rock vibe, enriched by strong instrumental interplay, warm bass grooves and steady drumming. Overall, “Vål: Itt” stands as a convincing and promising debut. Despite its short duration, the EP highlights a band with a clear artistic vision, solid musicianship and a recognizable sound. Djupet successfully blend heaviness, psychedelia and identity, marking themselves as one of the most interesting new names emerging from the Scandinavian Stoner/Doom scene.
