In this article we offer you an interview with a band that we had the pleasure of listening to and reviewing on our pages, welcome Pulsar from Sardinia.
Hi, how are you?
Hi Jacopo, we’re all fine, finally summer has arrived.
You play a Prog genre halfway between Metal and Rock, what are your main influences and inspirations?
Basically we are all users of progressive rock, in all its forms.
Each of us brings influences from our listening, ranging from Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, King Chrimson, but also Dire Strits AC / DC and other classic rock.
There is also all the modern metal, the Stoner and the Sludge in our listening.
Your album “Origins Of Life” was released in February 2022 and contains intense lyrics, what is the central theme of the album?
Origins Of Life is a concpt album and deals with the geological eras of our planet in chronological order.
The lyrics reflect the point of view of living beings present in that specific era.
We have to admit that it was a little difficult to identify with the life of a single cell organism!
A powerful and technical listening at the same time, how would you describe your album?
The album is the evolution of our previous record releases and in turn tells about the evolution of our
planet. It could be compared to a travel, a bit like the great literary works like the Divine Comedy or the Odyssey. A story in constant motion, with more complicated parts and other heavier ones, all held together by a lot of melody.
You have the ability to combine more classic Prog Rock sounds with more modern and heavy sounds, like the creative and compositional process of your music?
The compositional process all starts with a riff or a motif that each of us brings to the rehearsal room.
Then we develop it all together, each one plays his part until a song takes shape.
Then we develop the text that is adapted to the music, rarely changes are made to adapt some
passages to the vocal line.
Many fans and our readers will be wondering if there will be a chance to listen to your music live, do you have any plans for that?
We have received offers, but we all work and are carving out the time to prepare for some live dates.
It would be nice to be able to perform outside Sardinia (the requests have arrived) but it is very difficult to make our everyday life coincide with our artistic aspirations.
Living on an island also has downsides.
Today’s music market offers less refined and more commercial sounds, what difficulty (if any) does a band like yours find in proposing their music?
Today there are many more musical genres than 20 years ago, not to mention that sub-genres are born
every day. Although the chances of making yourself known are greater than in the past, it calls for the opposite effect, that is to get lost in this chaos.
Sometimes it’s just about being in the right place at the right time, but that rarely happens.
A band like ours can be the object of interest only for a small circle of people, but our main aim is not to
let us know, but to play what we like.
What advice would you give to young artists who try to emerge by proposing a musical genre closer to Prog Rock and Metal sounds?
We have been asking ourselves the same question for a while.
As difficult as it is, I would say that you need to be innovators and not imitators.
The last question, as always, I leave it free to be able to talk about any topic not covered in the previous questions, feel free to talk about what you want.
We thank you for the space you gave us.
We are a forty-year-old band that plays over time to be a professional musician, no one has a commercial interest in us. This makes us free to really do what we like, without fear that no one will judge us, think that we also make the artwork of our albums ourselves.
I thank Pulsar for the interview, wishing them the best for the continuation of their musical career. Thank you.
