PORTO ANTICO PROGFEST 2022
It is with great pleasure that once again this year, thanks to the Porto Antico, we announce that Genoa will be able to have a very high level Progressive Rock festival! In fact, on July 16, under the marquee of Piazza delle Feste, 6 bands will take turns divided between young hopefuls, brilliant confirmations and historic names from the 1970s.
The two headliners will be Osanna, historic and legendary Neapolitan band led by the charismatic frontman Lino Vairetti, who will present immortal classics taken from masterpieces such as “L’Uomo,” “Milano Calibro 9,”and “Palepoli” as well as playing the songs of their new work “Il Diedro del Mediterraneo.”
Before them we will have the pleasure of admiring once again a real myth of the history of music in Genoa: the Delirium (International Progressive Group) which together with immortal “anthems” such as “Jezahel,” “Dolce Acqua,” “Favola o Storia del Lago di Kriss” and “Dio Del Silenzio” will perform compositions taken from the most recent “Il Nome del Vento” and “L’Era della Menzogna” and there will be previews of songs that will be part of the new album to which the group is currently always working under the expert and precious guidance of the masters Ettore Vigo (keyboards) and Martin Grice (sax and flute).
Both bands (Osanna and Delirium) celebrate 50 years of activity and it will therefore be a pleasure and an honor to attend and participate in their performances.
Before them on stage the “G.A.S. – Gruppo Autononomo Suonatori” historic Progressive band from La Spezia which, despite their long activity, only recorded their first album in 2021 for Black Widow Records. Theirs is a pure Prog Rock in which it is natural to hear echoes of the best Italian bands of the 70s such as New Trolls, Delirium, Osanna and above all Banco del Mutuo Soccorso and Le Orme but there are also references to the great English masters, first of all the Emerson Lake and Palmer while maintaining an always fresh and personal sound, an uncommon gift to be highlighted.
Another band that will perform on the prestigious stage will be that of G.O.L.E.M.
Under this theme are the 5 boys from Piacenza who are part of the “Gravitational Objects of Light Energy and Mysticism,” which is also the title of their first album just released by Black Widow Records. Under the guidance of the extraordinary keyboardist Paolo “Apollo” Negri, ex Wicked Minds, their Progressive Rock is as strong, enveloping and fascinating as that of their reference bands: Uriah Heep, Quatermass, Deep Purple and Still Life. So a “vintage” sound but definitely current and well projected into the future. Critics from around the world have called it one of the best albums of 2022, now it’s up to these guys to prove it to us on stage.
Also this year we will have the very good Genoese Melting Clock, who unfortunately were penalized last year by some technical problems for which they did not perform to their full potential. It will therefore now be the right opportunity to present some songs that will be part of the new album in progress.
The young Cyrax will open the dance and, we assure you, will be a pleasant surprise for everyone. They are a very varied and interesting experimental prog quartet from Milan and they will present their new EP “Metamorphosis.”
The program is therefore varied and interesting, the ingredients to spend a day in the name of great progressive rock are all there and therefore we are waiting for you … PROG ON!
