Greenseeker is a Stoner/Progressive Rock band hailing from Portland Oregon with 2 albums to their credit. The new full-length “The Wish” was released on May 13, 2022 via StoneFly Records and contains 7 long-running tracks. The opening track “The Iron Tree” begins with organ melodies to which are added distorted guitar textures and a solid rhythm session. The retro touch of their sound is marked and immediately plunges us into the atmosphere of the past, halfway between Psychedelia and Prog. The vocal parts are warm and expressive and envelop the listener interpreting the lyrics with intensity, while the sound is enriched by tempo changes and a valuable instrumental section in the second part. A phrasing between guitar and bass opens “The Wheel and the Stone” and then develops a solid sound with references to the Heavy Rock of the past. Good mix between organ and guitar, the vocal with a dark touch is dynamic and expressive, a dark touch that permeates the sounds of the whole album. Tempo changes add a Prog touch to the track, with acceleration and instrumental passages of excellent workmanship, with the guitar protagonist in the second part. A fine interweaving between organ and guitar characterizes “Return to the Mortal Plane” developed on continuous tempo changes and a more Progressive imprinting. A killer bassline and solid drumming, continuous accelerations and successful riffs make the track elaborate and engaging. The vocal gives a dark touch to the sound, best telling the story contained in the lyrics, while an instrumental section develops in the central part. The singing returns and in the second part accelerated parts and Proto-Metal alternate with the more Prog traits of the band, making us travel with our minds among their retro-touch sounds. “Diviner / Charmed Apprentice” opens with guitar arpeggios and a spoken vocal, then moves slowly with the rhythmic session with hypnotic bass lines. The sounds of keyboards enriched by the effects give a lysergic touch to the song, showing in the first part a softer side of the band’s sound. With a change in the central part the track explores heavy Rock sounds with Blues traits, as in the best tradition of the late 60s. In the finale it increases the intensity and the guitar offers a tight and virtuous lead insert. A guitar opening and a slow rhythmic session characterize the intro of “Uncharted Realms” with its enveloping and lysergic sounds. The intensity increases with the passing of the minutes, developing the central theme with tempo changes and distorted guitar textures and a solo in the second part, to conclude with a short vocal insert. A background of dreamy keyboards opens “Master of the Storm” which begins with soft and deep sounds, with an intense vocal. A track with enveloping and Psychedelic sounds that shows another facet of the band’s sound. An excellent vocal test that accompanies us throughout the song, with a good mix of guitar and keyboards and an elaborate rhythmic session. The album closes with the title track “The Wish” which is also the longest track exceeding 11 minutes. An intertwining of guitar and keyboards opens the song, with a solid rhythmic session and a warm and expressive vocal. The tempo changes characterize the song, which combines Heavy Rock and Progressive traits, with a retro touch but with a strong characteristic personal touch. In the central part an intense instrumental section with the guitar as protagonist and tempo changes that guide us to the finale of the tarccia, with this very pleasant prolonged solo. An album that incorporates elements of Heavy Rock and Progressive, with a retro imprint and a distinctive personal sound. Good mixes of keyboards and guitar, a warm and expressive vocal always very intense, with a solid rhythmic session enriched by tempo changes. A listening recommended for lovers of Heavy Rock vintage sounds with marked Prog influences, very intense long-lasting tracks.
