Talking Elephant Records is delighted to announce the release on 20 January 2023 of Bold Reynold, the first album by David Carroll. This nine track album puts the rock firmly back into folk rock with seven traditional songs, a Dave Cousins classic and an epic version of “The Last Leviathan.” The Bold Reynold project is the result of ideas and arrangements that Carroll has been cultivating for a number of years. Despite his early success working the many Folk clubs in the early 70s, the waning interest in traditional music forced a career change. Carroll’s own love of traditional music though did not wane. He gained a qualification in stringed instrument making and repair which led to successful career in the musical instrument industry…He was soon in demand as a session musician which brought him into contact with some of the musicians who have enthusiastically joined him for this project – Dave Oberle, Graeme Taylor and Brian Gulland from Gryphon, Chris Leslie and Dave Pegg, from Fairport Convention, along with Tom Spencer from The Professionals and The Men They Couldn’t Hang, and Lucy Cooper.
The exciting new arrangements of the seven traditional songs, Andy Barnes The Last Leviathan, and Cousins’ “The Battle” (a track that featured on the first album by The Strawbs) are supported by a diverse mix of instrumentation. Crumhorns, cor anglais and uilleann pipes join fiddle, tabla, bouzouki and dulcimer alongside bass, drums and electric guitar – and all stops in between – to create a soundscape not to be missed.
