The Sand Pebbles come from Australia, in fact they first got together in 2001, when three of them were scriptwriters for “Neighbours” – how Australian can you get?
“Sometimes A Great Notion” comes from their latest album “The Antagonist” on Kasumuen Records (it’s their seventh album – they are something close to being legends down in Oz…”it’s time to fire up those lava lamps, project your liquid lighting onto your ceiling, whack your headphones on and melt into the abyss” – review of ‘The Antagonist’ by Back Seat Media).
The track is the opener to the album – a storming start – and takes its name from the Ken Kesey novel; I happened to hear it and thought it was crying out to be on a 7” single, fortunately the band and their label agreed and have let me loose to help spread the word; “Desire Lines” shows their more motorik side, is equally excellent and comes from their previous album, “Pleasure Maps.”
