Yellowknife Heavy Alternative Fuzz Rock band Gnarwhal release their new single “Circuits,” alongside an official lyric video.
“Circuits” finds the band digging deeper into their signature Northern sludge, where fuzz-drenched riffs, hypnotic grooves, and Doom-soaked weight collide with themes of power, decay, and disconnection. The track pulses with synthetic life and raw emotion, blurring the line between man and machine in a storm of distorted truth. As haunting as it is Heavy, “Circuits” is a cry from the wires, betrayed, rewritten, and burning at both ends.

The band talked with about the new single “Circuits,” read out exclusive Q&A below:
Could you share the creative vision behind this single and what sets it apart from your previous work?
With Circuits, we wanted to create something that felt relentless—like being pulled into a loop you can’t escape. It’s darker and more hypnotic than a lot of our earlier material, but still rooted in the heavy, riff-driven sound we’re after. What sets it apart is the way we leaned into repetition and atmosphere, letting the song feel like a living machine grinding forward. It’s both raw and controlled, which gives it a different edge compared to our past releases.
How does this track reflect the current direction of your music, both sonically and conceptually?
Sonically, it shows us digging a bit deeper into the doom and stoner realm, but with more focus on groove and texture. We’re experimenting with space, layering, and dynamics in a way that feels bigger and more immersive. Conceptually, Circuits ties into larger themes on the album about cycles, systems, and the tension between destruction and renewal. It’s a step toward a heavier, more expansive direction for us.
What do you hope listeners will experience or feel when they hear this release?
We want listeners to feel that sense of being caught in the current—both the weight of the riffs and the trance-like pull of the repetition. Ideally, it’s the kind of track you can lose yourself in, whether you’re feeling it physically through movement, or just zoning out with headphones. More than anything, we hope it leaves people with that mix of heaviness and catharsis that drew us to this music in the first place.

— More About Gnarwhal —
Formed in 2022, Gnarwhal have been carving out a distinct voice in Canada’s heavy underground. Their 2023 self-titled debut album earned a Western Canadian Music Award nomination, while 2024’s “Altered States” EP pushed their sound into spacier, Experimental territory without losing the low-end punch and emotional weight that defines their music. DIY to the core, the band has toured extensively across Canada, transforming basements, bars, and proper stages into sweat-soaked sonic assaults.
“Circuits” marks the first glimpse of Gnarwhal’s forthcoming sophomore full-length, due in March 2026, an album that promises to be even heavier, sharper, and more unapologetically their own.
