— Exclusive Q&A Highlights —
How does “The Wedding Singer” reflect the band’s approach to blending Classic Progressive Rock, Alternative Rock, and Pop influences?
I think it’s a perfect example of that. The Beatles harmonies on the verse. The odd meter bridge and the alternative rock chorus.
Can you walk us through the songwriting or arrangement process for this single, especially how the heavy riffs and melodic passages were developed?
I (Stefan) wrote the main part of this track. I came up with the verse chord progression and the melody when Daniel, Mats and I were rehearsing other stuff. Thought it would be fun to add an odd acoustic flavor in the bridge followed by the mega heavy riff. The chorus melody and lyrics were added after everything instrumental was recorded. The slide guitar is Daniels idea and it adds a lot of emotion to the verses. Daniel adds that there is also a lot of emotion involved trying to play slide, sing the harmony and then switch the sound and slide at the same time. It usually makes him feel frustrated over the choices he makes.
What emotional or narrative journey do you hope listeners experience when hearing “The Wedding Singer” for the first time?
The lyrics are about a wedding singer who travels too deep in the minds of the wedding guests. Eventually he completely loses it…. Hope that people who listen will feel his struggle. As always when it comes to PreHistoric Animals lyrics there’s a lot of dystopic humour and critique of society
