Jakabol Leornian

Bristol’s most beautifully unclassifiable ensemble is back. Jakabol — the Experimental Folk-Prog outfit that The Guardian memorably described as “bucolic one moment, psychotic the next” — have unveiled “Dragonfly,” the second advance single from their forthcoming album “Leornian,” due March 26, 2026 via their own Bandcamp and on all major streaming platforms.

Running at just under five minutes, “Dragonfly” is a compact but densely layered piece that showcases the full breadth of the band’s sonic palette. Joe Williams‘ vocals and guitar anchor the track, while Luke Saxton‘s keys, synths and harmonium weave spectral textures beneath the surface. Marietta Kirkbride‘s violin, viola and double bass lend the piece an unmistakably organic, almost ritualistic quality, and Owen Gatley‘s drumming holds the tension between stillness and rupture. The track also features the harp of Emmy Broughton and spoken word contributions from poet Malaika Kegode and Tess Morris — elements that push “Dragonfly” far beyond any easy genre definition.

Foley recordings by Saxton and Jon Nicholls add a field-recording dimension that blurs the line between song and soundscape. The result feels like a piece of music that exists somewhere between the English countryside and a fever dream — intimate and unsettling in equal measure.

Leornian” — a 10-track double album, limited to 100 copies on vinyl — was recorded by Dom Mitchison at Humm Studios between 2024 and 2025, produced by Luke Saxton, and mastered by Tom Woodhead. Artwork and design are by Owen Gatley.

The album follows “Jaded Temple” (2022) and the 2024 EP “After Thalassic,” further cementing Jakabol‘s reputation as one of the UK underground’s most singular and adventurous voices.
