Legendary Space Rock band Hawkwind return with a brand new collection that blurs the lines between studio album, archive excavation and future transmission. Drawing together unheard recordings, newly reworked classics and fresh material from the current lineup, this latest release stands as a vital and evolving chapter in the band’s ever-expanding sonic universe.
Rather than a retrospective, this forward-facing release presents a snapshot of Hawkwind in motion. Featuring brand new studio recordings alongside previously unheard material from ongoing and unreleased projects, the album captures multiple facets of the band’s creative output, from Cosmic Psychedelia to driving Space Rock and Experimental Electronica.
Opening with two striking new compositions, “Four Legs Good,” “Two Legs Bad” and “There Are Fairies In The Garden,” the album offers a glimpse into a forthcoming Hawkwind project. Elsewhere, “The Judge And The Fisherman” and “Goonhilly Downs” showcase the current lineup in full flight, delivering brand new material rooted in the band’s signature sound and immersive soundscapes.
“Psychedelic Selection” also revisits key moments from Hawkwind’s past with fresh perspective. “The Demented Man” and “Those Days Of The Underground” are reimagined for the present day, while “PSI Power” and “The Traveller of Space” are presented in powerful live-in-the-studio recordings, capturing the immediacy and energy of the band’s recent performances.
A particularly poignant highlight is “Hurry On Sundown,” marking the final recording by guitarist Huw Lloyd-Langton with the band — a fitting and Atmospheric tribute to an important contributor. The album further expands into more exploratory territory with tracks drawn from associated projects, including Dave Brock’s unreleased “Dance and Trance” material (Land Of Min, Out Of Luck) and Magnus Martin’s Ocean’s Spiral, adding new dimensions to the Hawkwind sound world.
Blending past, present and future, this release showcases a dynamic and ever-shifting journey through Hawkwind’s creative cosmos. It stands as both an entry point for new listeners and an essential addition for long-time fans, reaffirming the band’s status as pioneers of Space Rock and sonic exploration.
