Detroit-based Heavy outfit Hashra have teamed up with Progressive Rock Journal to present the exclusive premiere of their debut single, “Haul of Dead Wizzzardz,” released on September 13, 2026.
Forged in Detroit, Michigan, Hashra build a dense, thunderous sonic landscape rooted in Doom Metal, Groove-laden rhythms, and Atmospheric stoner and drone elements. “Haul of Dead Wizzzardz” showcases the creative synergy between multi-instrumentalist Wizzzardfingerz—who handled lead, rhythm, and bass guitars—and Nick The Grand Wizzzard on drums, with track mastering completed by Brendan “The Gent.”

“Haul of Dead Wizzzardz” delivers a powerful wall of sound driven by Heavy guitar layers and thick grooves. Could you share how the track came together during writing and recording, and what it was like collaborating with Nick The Grand Wizzzard on drums and Brendan “The Gent” on mastering?
HODW came from a jam session with my dad and I. My dad had to move his car in my driveway and within the time it took for him to go outside and come back in, the riff had been written. As he got back behind the kit, I played the riff and immediately started grooving to it. Using very basic recording equipment (sm57, ua volt) we were able to get a solid drum beat and rhythm guitar down. Collaboration is key. I’m not some musical genius or prodigy, so getting the input and opinions of other artists is what makes this fun, fresh and exciting. Nick The Grand Wizzzard, (my father) is not only my biggest musical influence but a very important element to the sound of this project. Brendan “The Gent” is a fellow Stoner/Doom artist I had met on social media, who has been a fantastic mind for me to pick with ideas and vibes. He knows the sound I’m going for and his mastering of the track was extremely helpful!
Hashra emerges from Detroit, Michigan, a city known for its gritty, Heavy musical legacy. What originally sparked the creation of this project, and what is the core concept driving its visual and thematic identity?
The creation of this project sparked due to hardware developments. I had traded an amp and a guitar for a completely new and different sound that what I had been used to. I was a Mesa Boogie user for years, then I fell in love with the sound of Orange amps. The way they tell a story is unlike anything else I’ve experienced. Next with a little help from Steve at Woodrite I had then traded my Gibson SG for a Woodrite Revelator and that really was the ignition for this journey. My core concept for this project is a combination of my love of Tolkien and my love of Science Fiction. I decided an album of wizards in space was a perfect expression of those two loves.
Your sound seamlessly weaves together elements of Doom, Drone, Stoner, and Groove Metal. How do you approach building such dense, heavy textures, and what specific musical or artistic influences shape your aesthetic?
Kiss. Keep it simple stupid. This is how it starts. Take a simple tone, one pedal and an amp and write a riff. The sound of that riff doesn’t have to be texturally complex, that comes later. Once that solid, simple foundation is laid then the real work begins. I take that riff and begin to layers other tracks with different sets of pedals, varying amp tones, guitars, sound scapes or whatever else I feel the specific track needs. I am heavily influenced by so many great bands and artists but more specifically in recent times it’s been Bongzilla, Sleep and Electric Wizard. These would be the main influences of tone and song structure for me, but musically I pull from an extensive library of influence. Everything from Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King, to bands like Green Day, to singer songwriters like Bob Dylan and Jim Croce, to bands I grew up on like Metallica, Clutch, and Pantera.
0Now that “Haul of Dead Wizzzardz” is officially released, what is next on the horizon for Hashra? Are you currently focusing on an upcoming EP, a full-length album, or planning live dates?
Hashra will be releasing an EP this year with the title being “Through Hyperdimensional Chaos”. The exact date is unknown but will be sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Once release I will be focusing on finding other members to get this project in front of people. Playing this music live would be an absolute dream, but for now writing and recording the EP is my main goal and focus.
