Progressive Rock Journal is proud to host the official exclusive premiere of “Angels With Demons,” the latest EP from Electric Sabbath. Operating out of Troutman, North Carolina, solo multi-instrumentalist Brendan crafts a wall of sound heavily grounded in classic Black Sabbath riffage, the oppressive weight of Electric Wizard, and the physical sustain of Sunn O))) Drone metal.
Written, recorded, and arranged independently, “Angels With Demons” balances crushing slow-tempo Doom with faster-paced riff workouts. Theme-wise, the record addresses personal struggles, vices, and mental health, channeling dark atmospheres into a six-track sonic arc that spans from the opening weight of “The Wizard Lost His Weed” to the closing ritual of “Night of the Sabbath“.

Exclusive Q&A with Brendan (Electric Sabbath)
As a solo creator combining Sabbath-inspired riffs with the crushing weight of Electric Wizard and Sunn O))), how do you approach building such massive soundscapes entirely on your own?
Being alone it’s tough because im not a good guitarist, I’ve been only a bassist since 2006, so learning to do drums and guitar has been a challenge but When I approach a new song, first I have to argue with myself if its gonna be instrumental or have lyrics.. My voice is terrible so I try not sing very much. I would rather be like Belzebong and just play. as far as the music side, it has to come from the heart. Riffs and Feedback feed the soul. The hum of an amp or the sustain from the guitar, it’s gotta be felt. It should be an Experience for the listener and the player. That’s one reason I love Sunn, The Experience from just the sound. Where I draw my inspiration from Electric Wizard is I strive to have a loud but dark sound with great riffs!
Side note: “Every time I find a great riff that I want to use, It’s already been taken by either Black Sabbath Or Electric Wizard lol. Like oh that’s how you play that song, well damn time for a rewrite haha“
On “Angels with Demons,” tracks like “The Wizard Lost His Weed” and “The Wizard Found His Weed” suggest a distinct storyline. How does this narrative arc shape the overall flow of the record?
In all honesty, Angels with Demons was quite different. I had original songs and a bunch of cover songs that helped my original story of the album, and to show off what I am actually capable of doing musically But I could not afford the license for each of the songs needed. Every song had to do with a vice or a mental illness cause we all struggle with something hence Angels with Demons, So the wizard losing and finding his weed technically fits but it was actually made for the 4th album that’s gonna be weed heavy in the title names. The best thing those 2 songs do is help balance the music from being slow and fast, A trick that I learned from Tony Iommi from his interviews. The slower darker songs compliment the faster songs.
You’re currently seeking a drummer and guitarist to bring Electric Sabbath to the stage. How do you envision a full lineup transforming these studio tracks in a live setting?
The Full lineup would be one guitarist and a Drummer and myself on bass, I’d rather have the guitarist sing but I can sing a few songs but in all honesty as much as I enjoy writing lyrics it can also just be us being instrumental and just playing doom. The songs I have are very easy to play since I’m not that good of a guitarist lol I’m very open about everything so besides a couple of songs, I would want all fresh stuff with the guys who come aboard for live shows and albums. The people who do listen to Electric Sabbath deserve better music. This is all about giving back to the doom community. Just having fun and enjoying the music and people I have met and will meet.
