[Interview] Exclusive interview with The Paradox Twin

Dear readers, in this article we have the pleasure to offer you an interview with a UK band playing modern, contamination-rich Progressive Rock. We welcome The Paradox Twin.

Hi, how are you?

Good thank you.

What is the meaning and why did you choose the name The Paradox Twin?

The idea came from when I was writing the first album, which was about time dilation and the twin paradox theory, which is the idea of where you have identical twins, and one is sent to a different galaxy on a high speed rocket and returns home to find that the twin who remained on Earth has aged more.

You play contaminated, fresh and modern Progressive Rock, where does your passion for these sounds come from and what are your sources of inspiration?

Ive always been into reading and being immersed into a story. I have a wide range of music influences which you can hear in my song writing. I like Alan parsons project, camel, renaissance, saga – but I also like heavier music like Opeth, and my favourite darker band is My Dying Bride who incorporate violins into their gothic sound which you can hear in my writing.

This year you are celebrating the 6th anniversary of the album ‘The Importance of Mr. Bedlam,’ what does this event represent for you?

The importance of mr bedlam was the start of everything. It’s very important to me, so celebrating it means the world to me. Touring also means to much to me. Playing and expressing the music that’s been created. Even more so after dealing with COVID where no one was even sure when you would be able to see a live band again. It’s so important!

To mark the occasion you have announced a series of live dates in Europe and the UK together with John Mitchell, how did this collaboration come about?

My previous guitarist was unable to play a show due to get married, and then shortly after decided that he wanted to step down, so I asked John if he would be interested in playing some more shows, which has ended in him being a permanent member. Which is amazing.

What can we expect musically from this tour,p will you play the whole album?

We are playing the entire album, plus songs from the second album but what makes this tour most important is the visual aspect. We are telling a story with visuals through the entire show. Something different that we haven’t done before.

Your music is a very intense mixture of styles with a modern Progressive imprint, how is the creative process of your tracks?

I am main song writer. Songs come in many ways and forms, but the beginning process starts with a story – this the very first thing. I will have a theme and then this allows songs to flow. Then each song will be written over the next month / 6 months / year. Starting from a sound, a plugin, it may come randomly into my head. It’s a process for me. I can’t sit and write an album in a week in a cottage. I start it, I go back to it, I add to it, change it etc etc.

Vocal parts are also very intense and inspired, what themes do your lyrics deal with?

I have mentioned this just now. This will be part of the story. It can be dark, happy, sad, thoughtful. It will fit the song / chapter of the story.

Your last album was released in 2021, do you have any new releases planned?

Yes! We are in the process of completing album 3. Keep checking back for more info.

Music is constantly evolving, how has your style changed over the years?

I feel that I’ve added more sounds, synths, layers to my song writing, rather than it just being guitar driven.

The music market has changed a lot in recent years, how do you see the modern progressive scene in your country and more generally in the world?

I feel that the music scene is still very much alive and kicking everywhere. It’s so important that bands such as myself are given opportunities at festivals and support shows to keep spreading alternative/ prog rock. Even more so as we turn more and more into a digital world that live shows remain!

Do you have any other activities or artistic passions outside of music?

I love spending time with my wife and kids.

I thank The Paradox Twin for the interview, wishing them all the best for the tour and the continuation of their artistic career

Thank you so much.

Danny
