[Interview] Exclusive interview with West Virginia one-man band Fuzzmind

Dear readers, this article features an interview with a young up-and-comer in the Stoner/Doom sound, originally from West Virginia. We welcome Fuzzmind.

Hi, it’s a real pleasure to have you among our pages, how are you?

Fuzzmind: “im great, yk, it’s a good day

You are a multi-instrumentalist and composer, how did your passion for music come about?

Fuzzmind: “well it started when i heard danzigs first album when i was like 7 or 8 then found the misfits which was one of my biggest influences in music in general and from there i got into heavy metal, death metal, sludge, slam, grindcore, you name it

You play heavy sounds between Stoner and Doom, how did your passion for these sounds come about?

Fuzzmind: “well I was sitting one day in my room and was listening to this band called “bag” they’re demo was really good and I was like “i wanna make something similar then electric wizard came on and decided to base my style off that

What are your main sources of inspiration in this regard?

Fuzzmind: “When it comes to doom, stoner, sludge etc it’d be stuff like acid bath, electric wizard, lunar moon, of course there’s also black sabbath

How did your new project Fuzzmind come about and your choice of name?

Fuzzmind: “Well I wanted to call it fuzz fuck but that wouldnt sit well with future lables and shit you know

You released your first demo, how would you describe this work?

Fuzzmind: “well it’s definitely my better work compared to my past two band Fucked By A Corpse which was with my friend before he passed, and my other solo project Angelic Death

How was the creative process of these three tracks?

Fuzzmind: “when it comes to my music i try to kinda create a more atmospheric tone instead of having intricate anything, so I just made some drum tracks with the drum machine and I just played them and kind just went along with it. I don’t plan anything

Are you working on an EP or full-length, what’s cooking for the near future?

Fuzzmind: “i am, there will also be a acoustic cover of “the rodeo song” that was recorded when I was hanging out with friends so it’s absolute shit, but thats true music, its not susposed to be perfect, its made by man and it should show what that artist io artists are in there head

What goals have you set yourself to achieve with this project?

Fuzzmind: “just have fun man, i wanna enjoy myself

I read that you also came up with another project called Angel Death, how do the sounds differ?

Fuzzmind: “Angelic Death was me just getting into guitar and vocals amd wanting to make shit, i didn’t care if it was good, i was making what sounded good to me

Do you plan to evolve this project by including other elements in the lineup, or does it remain your personal creative vehicle?

Fuzzmind: “The drummer is a drum machine but eventually ide like to play live maybe, maybe have some theater elements like i said I focus on atmospher rather than intricately playing with all the jerkin your guitar off and all that

An important step for an artist is contact with the public, have you already had live experience in your career?

Fuzzmind: “When I played in Fucked By A Corpse, i played shitty house shows that’s about it tho

As a one-man band, will there be a chance to hear your music live in the near future?

Fuzzmind: “I definitely hope so

You play all the instruments on the album, but which one do you feel most comfortable with and represents you most as an artist?

Fuzzmind: “The drums are just a drum machine, i just play guitar, there is no bass at all

The USA has always been a major exponent of Rock and Metal sounds, how do you see the current scene in your country?

Fuzzmind: “Well in the country i feel like it’s ok, could be better tho

Do you have any other activities or artistic passions outside of music?

Fuzzmind: “I’m a writer actually working in a comic with my friend River

I thank Fuzzmind for the interview, wishing him all the best for the continuation of his artistic career and the development of his musical and other projects.

  1. Stellar ass job, keep the faith in your self. Keep killin it and slaying it in the name of music. Music is like air. It’s not an addiction it’s a life need. In the dead of silence we realize there is no such thing as silence bc something, some one is always living and thriving from the harmony and beat of life and Gaia.
