The Copenhagen festival A Colossal Weekend is now adding four more acts to the 2024 festival program, which once again will feature both new and more classical artists within the Dark and Heavy as well as more Experimental and genre bending realms of Rock music. The 2024 festival marks the eighth edition and will take place from May 16 to May 18, once again with its natural center around VEGA in Vesterbro, Copenhagen.
The festival will feature approximately 25 acts from around the world, with a good number already announced, including headliners Wolves In The Throne Room (US) and Lite (JP). The lineup expands to include the Sludge ensemble Attan (NO), Shoegazeres Cloakroom (US), the Experimental Post-Punk orchestra GGGOLDDD (NL), Post-Rock quartet Indignu (PT) and Kraut Stoner trio Karambolage (DK). About A Colossal Weekend:
With its focus on Dark, Heavy and Experimental Rock music, the Copenhagen-based festival A Colossal Weekend has been offering a significant alternative in the Danish festival landscape since its inception in 2016. Through its passionate curation, the festival has become an integral part of the scene and genres it represents, whether itβs Post-Rock, Noise, Sludge or Black Metal. Through the years, the festival has presented key acts such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Anna Von Hausswolff, Cult of Luna and Russian Circles.
A Colossal Weekend is a collaboration between well renowned venue VEGA in Copenhagen and the booking agency Colossal as they both discovered a common goal and ambition in presenting visionary acts of high quality within genres that many might not be too familiar with. Genres such as Post-Rock, Post-Metal, Math, Doom, Sludge and Black Metal are solid ingredients in the program, however detours throughout other genres such Jazz, Techno and Neo Classical can also be expected. The concept of the festival is quite simple; to be a facilitated gathering place for music nerds, metalheads and curious souls with a soft spot for Dark, Experimental and Atmospheric music.
With A Colossal Weekend, the organizers themselves state that they are trying to create an alternative to other festivals, including the more genre-specific ones. “Our goal is to create a festival and curate a program you won’t find elsewhere. We aim to present and explore the diversity that exists when you dig a little deeper and venture into the corners. It’s not the headliners that shape the program, but everything you don’t know, which ties it all together.“
The lineup is built up around a handful of well-known acts who represent specific tendencies and sounds within their domain, accompanied by a substantial amount of strictly curated underground acts, who altogether underlines, challenges and explores the infinite borderlands of alternative gloomy music. The festival has so far been a destination for music enthusiasts from all over the world. 40 % of the audience has traveled to Copenhagen and A Colossal Weekend from countries abroad and has co-created memorable experiences among like-minded people.
A Colossal Weekend is realized with funding and support from the Copenhagen Municipality, Basement, Liveurope, Tuborg og Stauning Danish Whiskey.
