Waiting for the new work that will see the light in autumn, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso is preparing to celebrate live the fiftieth anniversary of “Il Salvadanaio,” an album that is the very history of Progressive Rock, a cornerstone not only of the group’s discography but true and its point of reference for many musicians on the international scene.
Five decades have passed, in fact, since the Banco broke into “Il Salvadanaio,” considered one of the most creative and original albums of the group, centered on the virtuosic intertwining of the keyboards of Gianni and Vittorio Nocenzi and on the inimitable tenor registers of Francesco Di Giacomo, at the service of a very particular contamination between UK Progressive Rock, Mediterranean sounds, Italian Baroque instrumental music and the tradition of Melodrama. All this will echo in the live dates, starting in spring and then in summer, when the group led by the charismatic leader Vittorio Nocenzi will return to tread the stages to celebrate this important anniversary. The public will be able to go back in time with the songs from the historic album, but there will also be an opportunity to listen to Banco’s latest compositions, those of “Transiberiana,” the latest studio album released in 2019.
The celebrations will open on April 2, 2022 in Foligno (Auditorium San Domenico), and the first confirmed live shows will soon be followed by others, including some in Sicily, Sardinia, Puglia, Campania and Calabria, to be defined. The calendar is constantly updated, and in the meantime these are the first dates announced: April 2 Foligno (PG), Auditorium San Domenico; May 20 Bellinzona, Bellinzona Beatles Day; May 29 Rome, Auditorium Parco della Musica; 12 June Verona, Prog Festival; 5 August Bordighera (IM), Rassegna D’amore D’autore.
With Vittorio Nocenzi (piano, keyboards and voice) who has guided the Banco since the beginning, a family of musicians at the height of their maturity will take the stage: Filippo Marcheggiani (electric guitar) for more than twenty years in the group, Nicola Di Gia (rhythm guitar) with the band for several seasons, Marco Capozi (bass) face known to Prog fans for his militancy in the Balletto Di Bronzo, Fabio Moresco (drums) former member of the Progressive Rock group Metamorfosi, and Tony D’Alessio ( lead vocal), for years in the Banco orbit and which collects the important legacy of Francesco Di Giacomo, without ever falling into emulation, instead tracing a personal stylistic line, in the sign of continuity but also of renewal.
1972-2022: fifty years of profound changes in society, in customs and in taste. A long period during which the Banco has not, however, lost its original essence, its unconventional approach, far from commonplace, remaining an Avant-Garde band while maintaining a visceral link with the roots of music.
