The Residents Eskimo Live

After announcing their long-awaited “Eskimo Live! Tour” earlier this month, The Residents have added new shows in Los Angeles (The Montalbán, January 17) and New York City (Sony Hall, January 30) to meet overwhelming fan demand. The expanded 2026 tour marks the first time in their five-decade career that the avant-garde legends will perform their seminal 1979 album “Eskimo” live and in full. Tickets for these additional tour dates are on-sale now. For more information, visit https://www.residents.com/

Launching January 8th in Vancouver, BC, the “Eskimo Live! Tour” will now visit 13 cities across North America, bringing one of experimental music’s most mythologized works to the stage through a theatrical, immersive production. Each night will feature a complete performance of “Eskimo” — reimagined with narration, surreal characters, and stagecraft built around the original 1979 master recordings.

Long regarded as one of The Residents’ most daring conceptual achievements, “Eskimo” remains a cornerstone of Avant-Garde culture. Released at the height of punk, the album abandoned traditional song structures in favor of “fictional anthropology” — a surreal soundscape inspired by imagined Inuit rituals and Western cultural intrusion. Mixing ambient drones, invented chants, and biting satire, “Eskimo” pushed the boundaries of what music could express, offering a critique of imperialism and identity that still resonates today.

The “Eskimo Live! Tour” follows a wave of creative momentum for the anonymous collective, whose 2025 album  “Doctor Dark” (Cherry Red Records / MVD Entertainment Group) introduced a heavy, orchestral “modern opera” inspired by moral panic and existential dread. Together, these projects capture The Residents’ ongoing evolution as provocateurs, visionaries, and disruptors — artists who have remained defiantly unclassifiable for over half a century.

For over 50 years, The Residents have defied every convention. They claim no members. They don’t give interviews. Their anonymity is both statement and shield — a rejection of ego and an embrace of art as myth. Their work has been archived at MoMA, cited as influence by Devo and Animal Collective, and continues to shape generations of Experimental musicians and performance artists.

With “Eskimo Live!,” one of their most mysterious creations finally steps out of legend and onto the stage.
