The Soft Prog project Deception Store (Emporio dell’Inganno) “Osmosis,” by Merano-based artist Marco Pantozzi, is the new album released five years after his recording debut entitled “Pindaric Flights” (Ma.ra.cash Records).

Unlike the previous work—widely acclaimed by the international press and produced in the South Tyrolean city with the contribution of well-established local musicians under the direction of producer Joe Chiericati—this time Deception Store worked in Emilia. Not only did the number of involved musicians triple, but the project also benefited from the collaboration of some very well-known names in the Italian Prog Rock scene, such as Gigi Cavalli Cocchi, Vincenzo Ricca, and Max Repetti. These artists boast vast experience and regularly collaborate, or have collaborated in the past, with musicians of true international stature, including Steve Hackett, David Jackson, Greg Lake, Ian Anderson, Tony Levin, Bernardo Lanzetti, Ligabue, and many others.

Precisely because of these many interconnections among different artists—and due to the author’s inclination toward diverse musical genres (above all Symphonic Soft Rock in the vein of Pink Floyd, but also instrumental ambient music and a certain kind of singer-songwriter Pop)—the album takes the title “Osmosis.” It represents a genuine fusion of sensibilities, styles, and genres, resulting in a rich and varied work capable of appealing to quite different tastes.

Compared to Deception Store’s debut, it is worth noting that this time the album will be sung in Italian rather than English, as was the case with “Pindaric Flights.” The record also includes two fully instrumental tracks as well as two duets with two young singers from Piacenza. Music and lyrics are by Pantozzi himself, in some cases co-written with Vincenzo Ricca (The Rome Pro(g)ject), Max Repetti (Greg Lake, Annie Barbazza), and guitarist Mike Frajria, his first mentor.

The album—10 tracks for just over 43 minutes of music—was recorded at Elfo Studio Recording in Piacenza, under the expert guidance of Alberto Callegari.
