Nearly six years following the release of their critically acclaimed second album βSerene,β Oslo-based Progressive Rock/Metal four-piece group Delvoid are back with a new full-length album titled βSwarmlife.β
Featuring six songs spanning nearly one hour of new material, βSwarmlifeβ is set for release on April 29, 2022 and sees Delvoid moving away from the slow, morose and orchestral soundscapes present on βSereneβ to embrace a more Psychedelic and Progressive Rock sound. While “Serene” was a leviathan of an album, with layers of synths, strings and dubbed guitars, “Swarmlife” showcases the band’s four core members at their best. It’s more band and less orchestra, but still everything we’ve come to expect from Delvoid.
The expressive storytelling and the thick walls of sound are still there, yet thereβs a profound and explosive intent to be found in βSwarmlifeβ that sets it apart from its predecessors. Simultaneously thunderous and touching, this new album is dynamically diverse, ranging from atmospheric passages full of emotional nuances to hard-hitting and explosive moments. The Norwegian band describes it as βruthless, trippy and vulnerable.β
Vocalist Alex says: “The lyrics of Swarmlife take the form of introspective storytelling. Thematically, the album works with the tension between individualism and collectivism. Attempts are made to trace thoughts and emotions backwards beyond the self to their ideological origins. As the lines between ideology and psychology are blurred, a ruthless, virus-like longing for fellowship is unearthed. This longing, in a sense, explains the anger and melancholy with which the lyrics are imparted.”
