Deriva, the Post-Rock/Instrumental Metal band based in Madrid returns with a new album where they immerse us in their raw emotions, sensitivity and power of different influences, managing to evoke those deep ideas that words cannot express.

The band returns with their peculiar style that integrates elements of Emo, Hardcore, Progressive Rock, Flamenco and Cinematic Music. Every conceptual detail in their compositions is deeply crafted and balanced in its own beauty, intensity and technical skill.

Continuing with the concept of their new work dedicated to the moiras, “Aqua Vitae,” the theme they now present is related to Nona, who is in charge of threading the thread of a person’s life. This moira is identified with birth and gestation, and is usually represented as a young woman, full of life. And what better element to express this birth and this relationship with life than water: the creator of life on our planet. It is thanks to her that we are here.

In the words of the band: “Aqua Vitae expresses the sensation of being born, of waking up and having a whole life ahead of us to shape as we choose. But, like all birth, it brings with it pain and tension which is expressed very starkly towards the middle of the song. Even so, like everything in life, pain can be managed and used to fight and move forward, hence the leitmotif of the song is repeated in a much more powerful way, in the final part, as a hymn against the possible problems that fate can present.

Biography:

Deriva was born in 2016 with an eponymous release focused on concepts and components of the brain. This release propelled them into the post-metal scene in Madrid leading them to win the award for best metal band and best guitarist at the 2019 Villa de Bilbao.

Ready for their next release, they got to work with Alex Cappa at Metropol Studios where they released “Hauki I & II” by the hand of Nooirax Producciones. It was through this album, focused on the concept of the poetic haiku style, where they really began to concentrate all their energy on the cinematic element of their compositions.

The founding members of the band are from Madrid, both guitarists Muñi and Minchy, while Javi on bass is from Galicia and Rory on drums from Denver.

After touring for two consecutive years across Europe, they are currently working on their next tour to promote their new EP “Nona/Décima/Morta” in Europe and the UK.
