Italian drummer and multi-instrumentalist Diego Petrini, best known as co-founder and main composer of Il Bacio della Medusa, one of the most relevant Italian Progressive Rock bands of the past two decades, is set to release his debut solo album “La Materia del Suono” on June 20, 2025, via AMS Records | BTF Vinyl Magic.

A deeply Cinematic and instrumental concept work, “La Materia del Suono” explores the boundaries between 1970s-inspired Progressive Rock and Jazz-Rock Fusion, enriched by elements of Classical, Folk, Ethnic and Experimental Music. The album also features the iconic voice of Alvaro Fella (Jumbo) on the closing track.
Structured in two thematic sections — “L’Armonia della Natura” (The Harmony of Nature) and “Sull’Artificio dell’Uomo” (On the Artificiality of Man) — the 12-track journey is grounded in expressive piano-driven compositions, colored by vintage Moog and Mellotron, vibrant woodwinds by Eva Morelli, and a refined sonic palette that evokes Scandinavian Prog and Italian classicism alike.
More than a mere collection of tracks, “La Materia del Suono” is a sonic exploration of the dichotomy between Nature and Artifice, brought to life by Petrini’s virtuosic performance on drums, keyboards and more, and by the cohesive interplay of guest musicians: Eva Morelli (flute and sax), Giorgio Panico (fretless bass), Andrea Morelli (electric guitar), and Claudio Ridolfi (accordion).
The album’s grand finale, Ciò che Trascende, marks the only vocal moment, with Alvaro Fella’s unmistakable voice delivering a poetic message that invites the listener to question modern materialism and embrace introspective freedom.
“La Materia del Suono” will be presented in an exclusive national premiere on June 20th at 6:30 PM in the magnificent Auditorium Santa Cecilia in Perugia, hosted by the cultural associations Il Circolo delle Menti and Trasimeno Prog.
