Montréal’s Psychedelic Noise Rock quintet En Fer are releasing a split with the “Retro Avant-Garde” string noise trio Disensemble from Austin, Texas, on July 12th, 2024. The split will be available for streaming on Bandcamp as well as other platforms and on a limited C-40 cassette self-released by En Fer through their Bandcamp page and at some underground Montréal stores.
As some members of both bands have been collaborating for years as solo noise artists, the idea of a split release with both collectives appeared as a natural one, despite the different sound of both bands. In fact, En Fer’s Noisy improvised approach always found its way towards listeners into the more Experimental spectrum of music while being Rock music, notably since most members of the band came from this scene and that is why a release such as this split with Disensemble appears as a natural fit for them.
Disensemble’s side is a long 2023 recording with a sound palette borrowed from this era in the 60s and 70s where contemporary music composers (useless to drop names at this point) used to experiment with electronic music using classic instruments through the eyes of noise musician of the 21st century. Rarely this much revered sound has been reexplored with an intention to focus on the noisy aspect of these classic compositions as how Disensemble approach it and the result is a powerful experience.
En Fer’s side of the split represents the first recordings published since the release of 2023’s album “GROS ROCK.” On both tracks, En Fer’s blend of Doom, Free Improvisation and Psychedelia is explored furthermore with the more rhythmic and repetitive approach already present on “GROS ROCK.” In addition, the band got help from sound wizard Dominic Jasmin to expand the sheerness of their chaotic droning Psychedelic Noise Rock to a new level…
En Fer will appear live at Casa del Popolo in Montréal on August 31st with Dead Bush, Tétano-Cutané and Fever Visions.
