Most of the material that appears on “Wake Of The Flood” debuted in 1973, with a couple of exceptions, including “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo,” which arrived on the scene in the summer of 1972. Played frequently throughout the rest of that year and just as often in 1973, by the time the Dead hit Evanston, IL, on 11/1/73, two weeks after the release of “Wake Of The Flood,” “Half Step” was a fully formed, mature addition to the repertoire. – David Lemieux
