Madrid, Spain based Psychedelic Stoner Rock band Grim Comet return with their new full-length album, “Winter Of Hate,” which was released on December 16th, 2022. Stream the whole album through their YouTube channel:
“The album is a tribute to the sound of the 60’s. I came up with the idea when I was waiting to take a plane from New York to Madrid. A few days before that, I watched Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Then I started to listen to some of the songs from the soundtrack and I made a playlist with music from the 60’s. We’re what we see and what we live. So I wanted to give my version of that sound with a more modern approach.
Instead of summer of love, I wanted to show another angle. Today we’re not that naive. We have gone through so much. And although some stuff is easier and we could be closer to each other than ever, nowadays I think we live darker times. So I came up with the idea of Winter Of Hate.
It took forever to record, the pandemic came and then we weren’t able to find a time schedule that could work for all of us. There were disagreements with the direction of the band. And I was busier teaching lessons than before… Due to all of this, I changed the drummer and postponed it till Guillermo & his studio was available as well. It should have been recorded by 2021 but the circumstances weren’t the most appropriate.
Infinite thanks to ‘it has no name yet’ Studios (Guille Laorga) for their patience and their work. The process of writing was very stressful because I wanted to record several things with slide for the first time in my life. In addition, Invierno is really tricky! I had to spend lots of time practicing to take things to another level with that tremolo alternate picking I use. And last but not the least, I wanted to come up with better vocal arrangements and I had no idea where to start with. These songs needed to be simpler and catchier so I worked on that as well. We also had a few shows booked before the recording and we had no drummer. That added an extra pressure I didn’t need at the time plus nobody wanted the part. Anyway I looked forward to play the shows.
I talked to many drummers and finally Alberto Espinosa was chosen. He was in Grim Comet a few years before so everything was easier. Although I didn’t get to listen to some of the bass lines till we recorded the album, I think they’re really cool. Good job Mr. Raúl!
Thanks to G2 Disseny for the logo and the album cover! Special Thanks to Conchita, Jose, Natalia, Antonio, Carlos & Raquel. I hope you like the record as much as we do!! Thank you all!” — Willy de Moya
Grim Comet define themselves as a different band, in the beginning their sound used to combine Stoner Rock influences from the 70’s and Classic Heavy Metal & Doom references. The trio absorbs in their music and incorporates elements from the 70’s as they could be Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd; also influences from the Big four North American Thrash Metal and NWOBHM bands like Motörhead and Venom. One of the strong points of Grim Comet is their live show, each concert is unique because of the dynamics of their songs, improvisation and changes in their setlist. After releasing their debut “Pray For The Victims” (2014) through Art Gates Records and touring with Casablanca, the band released their second album “God Is Dead, Let’s Eat Him” in 2016 and toured again several times in Spain. “Metropol Sessions” (2018) is a live studio opus recorded at Metropol Studios in Madrid, Spain, consisting in a selection of the most outstanding tracks of their previous albums. After a headlining tour through China, Grim Comet returns with a different sound, way more catchy. Rocker than ever and more personal. 9 new tracks that take us from the most Classic Rock to the 90’s Grunge, through Garage sounds & Progressive influences. This is “Afterlife” (2019) and you are going to hear more about it. Don’t miss this!
