[News] Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate release a new EP “Feeling Great”

Official Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate Press Release:

This EP is unrelated to our forthcoming album “The Confidence Trick” and consists of three tracks written during lockdown, and one old unreleased one that I’d forgotten about. These songs are simpler than our usual music. This isn’t a change of music direction – the twiddly bits will be as twiddly as usual in the next album, but it’s just how these songs seemed to go, relfecting the times within which they were written.

This year has been less than joyful for many of us. The title track “Feeling Great” may be relatable to those of us struggling. The song might not be much fun, but it is honest. It’s about the pressure to pretend to feel great when you really don’t. For me personally I experience this a lot with the chronic pain from my Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

It is followed by “Struggling,” a melancholic bluesy instrumental, on which I play my beloved Fender Strat.

The last new track is “Callisto Cuddle Sponge,” named after Philip K Dick‘s hideous alien parasite. This track features Mark Gatland on the Chapman Stick, an instrument like a bass guitar but with far too many strings, as if it had been photographed in panorama mode while moving, creating a visual glitch with repeated strings.

We’ve also included a bonus track “Skyline.” I wrote this previously unreleased electronic instrumental in 2011. A very supportive friend heard it on a Youtube video, and asked for it to be released. It isn’t up to the audio quality we would hope for if writing it now, but we don’t have the original project files to go back to. This is dedicated to Bob.

The artwork is by the amazing Mrs White Photoart – it is a great honour to be allowed to use her art with our music again.
