— A World Shifted on Its Axis —
Formed in Amsterdam in 2016, Cervus have spent years refining a monolithic sound that merges desert rock, heavy psych, and crushing stoner doom. Following their early discography — comprising the fiery “Ignis” EP (2021), the single “Cycles” (2022), and the wider-ranging “Shifting Sands” EP (2023) — “Axis” marks their most dynamic and expansive work to date.
The choice of title is deeply poignant. During the creation of the album, several band members experienced the loss of a parent. Reflecting how the death of a loved one can make one’s entire world shift on its axis, the record is heavily marked by themes of grief, loss, and the fragility of human existence.
Musically, Axis elevates the band’s signature “wall of sound” through sharp structural dynamics, atmospheric soundscapes, and massive riffing.
Recommended for fans of Queens of the Stone Age, Rezn, Lowrider, Soundgarden, and Elephant Tree, Cervus continue to bridge raw emotional depth with Heavy, Cinematic soundscapes.
Recorded under the band’s own direction at WOODROX Studios in Amsterdam, “Axis” was produced, recorded, and mixed by drummer Rogier Henkelman. Mastering was handled by renowned engineer Karl Daniel Lidén (Lowrider, Dozer, Greenleaf). The visual presentation was designed by the band, featuring photography by bassist Tom Mourik and album layout by lead vocalist Tom van der Linden.
“Axis” will be available on all major streaming platforms on November 13, 2026. Physical formats include a digipack CD and a limited double 12″ gatefold black vinyl pressing (250 copies) with lyric sheets.
