Italian Progressive Rockers Insomnia published the official sampler for their new album “II” out on May 26, 2024 via Ma.Ra.Cash Records. Stream the sampler through the YouTube player below:
The Symphonic Prog of Insomnia arrives from Turin and formed in 2012. The sextet has an excellent new work out now called ‘II’. The debut album “Brainshock” was inspired by real events and tells stories that analyze the limits and reactions of the brain when faced with extreme conditions.
The new album continues to focus on these stories but with more attention to the melodies. Most of the songs are sung in Italian, but this does not take away the charm of the work.
The album opens and is based on vintage melodic hard rock into which progressive rock elements are cascaded, in particular with the use of saxophone and synthesizer. Their music breathes allowing the band to add a lot of improvisation in a mix of jazz fusion with a melodic sound.
We travel between a mixture of Iq, Genesis, Yes, Pfm, Flower Kings but also Rush so it is really difficult to give a label to this band, they are a progressive band at root but their music is really airy and well listenable which makes “II” is a really good album.
