Stockholm-based Metal outfit Jonestown have unveiled “Viy,” the second single from their forthcoming debut album “Promise Of Enlightenment,” scheduled for release on May 29, 2026.
Formed in 2009, the band operates within a framework rooted in Thrash Metal and Classic Heavy Metal, delivering a sound built around tight, riff-driven structures, melodic vocals and controlled dynamic shifts. While occasional structural variations emerge throughout the material, the band’s core identity remains firmly grounded in a direct and impact-driven approach.
The recently unveiled single “Viy” serves as the second preview of the album, following the earlier track “Jonestown” (released March 27). Centred on darker narrative themes and drawing on Horror-inspired imagery, the track reinforces the band’s balance between melodic accessibility and a predominantly thrash-oriented framework.
After a prolonged period of inactivity, four of the five original members reunited in the early 2020s to complete the work that would eventually shape their debut full-length.
“Promise Of Enlightenment” features nine original compositions, accompanied by two bonus cover tracks, for a total runtime of approximately 75 minutes. The album was recorded at Studio for Nations in Stockholm and subsequently mixed and mastered in Warsaw by Sebastian Has, known for his long-standing work with Behemoth.
Lyrically, the record explores themes of religious fanaticism, geopolitical unrest and the brutality of war, alongside elements drawn from Horror Fiction and Cinema, shaping a Dark and cohesive narrative backdrop.
