The return to the scenes of the Milan based band Alphataurus cannot but have the flavour of an event among fans of Italian Progressive Rock, thanks mainly to the indelible mark left several decades ago with the 1973 eponymous masterpiece, but also to the beautiful and more recent “AttoSecondo” (2012). The band’s recent incarnation has also released a live album (“Live in Bloom,” 2012) and one of rarities (“Prime Numbers,” 2014). After ten years of absence then, in which there was no shortage of live appearances, Alphataurus are once again knocking on the doors of Prog Rockers with an unreleased album, the long gestation of which unfortunately ended with the departure of the historic founding guitarist Guido Wassermann.
“2084: Viaggio nel Nulla” is a 100% Alphataurus record, starting with a beautiful and futuristic three-panel cover illustrated by the band’s new drummer, which invariably recalls the paintings of the historic debut. Musically, the sound is more modern and catchy, but does not renounce a complex and never banal song construction, as witnessed by the long tracks “Pista 6” and “Wormhole.” As the title suggests, moreover, “2084: Viaggio Nel Nulla” is a dystopian, sci-fi concept full of philosophical and existential insights.
