Greek bassist and composer Manos Loutas returns with an imaginative and genre-defying new single entitled “Pink Panther meets Karagouna,” available now on YouTube. The track offers a unique fusion between two seemingly distant musical worlds: the iconic “Pink Panther Theme” by Henry Mancini and the traditional Greek Folk song “Karagouna” from Thessaly.

Performed with a quartet line-up evocative of a Big Band in spirit, the piece blends swing jazz and Greek traditional music with elegance and flair. Trombone (Antonis Andreou) and bass (Loutas himself) take the lead, supported by Pantelis Benetatos on piano and Yorgos Maniatis on drums. The result is a vibrant, playful arrangement that bridges childhood nostalgia and cultural heritage with inventive musicianship.
“‘Pink Panther was my introduction to Jazz as a kid,” says Loutas, “while ‘Karagouna’ was my favorite among the Greek folk songs my parents loved. I realized they shared a common feel, and I wanted to give ‘Karagouna’ a jazzy twist.“
The track was recorded at Sierra Studios on February 20, 2025, mixed by Anastasios Katsaris (Small Stage Productions), and mastered by Anestis Psaradakos (Athens Mastering Studios). The accompanying video and graphics were created by Manos Malichoutsakis, featuring charming hand-drawn visuals by Loutas’ daughter, Evmorfia.
This project is also a heartfelt tribute to Loutas’ family and especially to the memory of his late parents and brother, whose influence permeates the emotional core of the piece.
