Martin Kielty published a Prog poem about dementia “Descent into Dementia|Not Really Me Not Any More” on The Boozer Cruiser YouTube Channel.
Martin present the project:
“I wondered if you might be interested in mentioning my latest “prog poem,” released today. I’m a rock journalist with three books in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but in recent years I’ve semi-retired and I’m focusing on creating art rather than articles!
This is my my fourth collaboration with Norwegian musician and producer Jacob Holm-Lupo (White Willow / Opium Cartel / Donner etc) under the Boozer Cruiser banner, and it’s been the most challenging to date.
It’s called ‘Not Really Me Not Any More’ and it’s the story of an amateur art collector, diagnosed with dementia, leaving a message for the person who’ll next own his beloved Japanese wood block prints. It came about because both of us have recently been dealing with dementia in our lives. Everyone who heard the demo was moved by it, so I’m hoping it might make a difference in helping people talk more about it – it’s a cruel illness that makes victims of everyone, not just the person suffering.

The Boozer Cruiser (named for the fact that I live on a narrowboat on the canals of England and Wales) came about after I interviewed Jacob for an article and we found ourselves to exist on a similar plane. Since then we’ve created ‘The Withy’ (over 70,000 views – the story of how a young boy invented Stonehenge centuries before it was finally built); ‘The Ghost of Terror Bay’ (over 17,000 views – based on the doomed Franklin Expedition, featuring Chrissy Mostyn of the Blackheart Orchestra); and ‘No Liars Were Harmed’ (over 60,000 views – inspired by the Ukraine invasion). There are more to come soon with a handful of live shows planned (me performing solo, sadly).
