Italian Heavy Psych/Krautrock band Modern Stars published the official video for the first single “Bartleby” taken from upcoming new album “Termination” due out on March 01, 2024 via Clostridium Record/Little Cloud Records/Sister 9 Recordings. Watch the video through the YouTube player below:
With the new LP, Andrea Merolle (electronics, guitars and vocals), lyric soprano singer Barbara Margani, Andrea Sperduti (drums) and Mario Bruni (bass), continue their unique sonic exploration through extraterrestrial soundscapes. A pure injection of Psychedelic from outer space tinged with ceremonial Kosmische, the music of Modern Stars is loaded with stringed and electronic sounds, laid down through a multilayering approach that has more in common with Indian Traditional Music and Techno than with Rock’n’Roll.
“Termination” is an album inspired by the halting problem in computer theory. In computability theory, the halting problem is the problem of determining, from a description of an arbitrary computer program and an input, whether the program will finish running or continue to run forever. The halting problem is undecidable, meaning that no general algorithm exists that solves the halting problem for all possible program input pairs. This is true also for human life, as it goes up and down and one can’t program it, because simply you cannot predict the future, and even if we could there are so many variables that can easily fuck up any sort of forecast.
The first couple of songs are about a man without faith in the computer age (“If/Then“) who inevitably feels lost (“Nowhere“). He starts to believe in both religion (“Confession“) and corporate society schemes (“Organization“), but when he finds out that they are both deeply incompatible and nevertheless connected to each other, he relentlessly quit, not caring anymore about nothing (“Bartleby“) except for true love and salvation (“Be Pure“). When the end finally arrives, for him it feels like an absolution (“Coming Down“).

Modern Stars is an Italian neo psych rock band formed by Andrea Merolle, Barbara Margani, and Andrea Sperduti. They showcase a unique musical style characterized as instinctive, flickering, fuzzy, aerial, groovy, bizarre, distorted, harmonious, and dissonant. Influenced by bands like Spacemen 3, Primal Scream, Suicide. Modern Stars released their debut album ‘Silver Needles’ (MiaCameretta Records)in 2020 and sophomore album ‘PsychIndustrial’ (MiaCameretta Records). Their third studio work ‘Space Trips for the Masses’ was released in 2022 via Little Cloud Records, and received acclaim as one of the best psych albums of the year in various fanzines.
