Overcast Harbor states: “I can’t believe it hasn’t even been half a year since Danger Zones came out! I was overjoyed at the positive response to Danger Zones, and it put me into overdrive for a while. As a result, I released a ton of singles, the Cow Sounds EP, and now this. And believe me, I’ve got even more cooking that I haven’t shown off yet! Seriously nothing but thanks to everyone who has given support to my releases, it has been a serious motivator to keep going and keep going hard.

Still, I’m aiming not to get sloppy or complacent. With that in mind, Now With Words was somewhat of a challenge to myself, or two challenges in particular:

– Incorporate vocals and lyrics into my music
Make a full-length epic medley
I wanted to originally put lyrics in the tracks to Danger Zones, specifically I had written out some for Homage to the Red Ghost. However, I just had too much trouble fitting them in, and ultimately decided to focus on a fully instrumental release. I still find difficulty in writing and placing lyrics! It’s harder than it seems, having to figure out what to write and more importantly how to deliver it within the song itself.

However, right after Danger Zones came out, I got right back to work. As you probably know, the first single from the album (Nomonhan) came out a mere two weeks after Danger Zones’ release, and includes lyrics (albeit sparsely placed). I slowly worked out the general process, which was generally to carve out places for lyrics in songs in between instrumental passages. Originally I worked on the instrumental and vocals simultaneously but ultimately decided it was easier to do the instrumental first and changed my method midway through as a result.

As much as I’d like to just make music full-time, I obviously don’t make nearly enough money to do that, so I have started working part-time. On top of that, community college classes, and social events, I’ve been keeping myself busy. Still, I have a lot of time on my hands for music making, and any delays are generally due to lack of motivation more than anything else. Also, what an album is just changes a lot while you’re making it! So many times I thought I was close to finishing it, but then something just told me it wasn’t right the way it was, and I dedicated more time to changing the track listing to better fit my vision. In particular, the tracks Tassadar and Symphony 3+4, previously released as a single and on Cow Sounds respectively, were both originally intended to be on the album but ultimately were cut.

The cover art was drawn by me on pencil & paper, same deal as Cow Sounds and Ventilation Shaft Ouroboros’ cover art. I always had the idea of putting a giant birdman on it, screaming the album’s title. The lynx was more of a last minute addition. As for why the birdman is melting, if you can see that, it’s because I was inspired by the cover art of Peter Gabriel 3 (AKA Melt), and enjoyed the aesthetic of a dissolving creature. I think that and the black-and-white color scheme goes well with the generally darker, more grounded tone of the album’s content compared to the more upbeat Danger Zones. Probably a result of all that Marillion I’ve been listening to.

As always I hope you enjoy the album, new tracks and old. If you are interested in information about each individual track, look on the lyrics page where there are extensive liner notes for the songs. How they came to be, what they feature, and of course the lyrics themselves (where applicable). It’s been a chaotic 6 months, but through the ups and downs I am committed to experimenting, trying new things, and taking risks! I’m also ready to release more within 2026 and beyond. Thank you so much for listening and reading!
